Shark IQ vs AI vs EZ vs ION Series Robot Vacuums

Although Shark is a relatively new entrant in the robot vacuum cleaner game, it’s done a fantastic job at making high-quality mid- and high-tier robots.

In this comparison guide, we’re going to show you the differences between four of Shark’s most highly regarded robot vacuums—the Shark IQ, AI, EZ, and ION Series.

If you’re on the fence regarding which Shark robot vacuum to get, this guide should put an end to any doubts you might have.

Shark IQ

The Shark IQ is a powerful robot vacuum that sports all of the bells and whistles you’d want. First, it comes with a powerful motor that produces high levels of suction to remove large, small, and stuck-on debris from carpets and bare floors.

It uses a standard brush roll with two side brushes for optimal edge-to-edge cleaning.

Thanks to IQ Navigation and Total Home Mapping, the IQ requires very little time to create an accurate digital map of your home.

Using the SharkCLean app, you can gain access to the digital floorplan to define rooms and send the IQ to specific areas for concentrated cleaning. It travels across floors in a row-by-row pattern, so there’s very little chance that it’ll miss a spot on your floors.

What you might find most fascinating about the Shark IQ is that it comes with its own self-empty base. Whenever the IQ needs to recharge, the base will suction all debris out of the robot’s dustbin, making it ready for subsequent cleaning sessions. The self-empty base can hold onto 45 days’ worth of debris at a time.

Shark AI

The Shark AI shares many of the same features and specs as the IQ and EZ. Firstly, it comes with a self-empty base, but it’s about one-third larger than that of the IQ and two times larger than the EZ’s base.

In addition, the self-empty base comes with a HEPA filter to prevent tiny particles 0.3 microns and larger from leaking out onto your floors with near-100% effectiveness. So, if you want two months’ worth of hands-free convenience with minimal spillage, the Shark AI is for you.

If that’s not enough of a deciding factor, perhaps its LiDAR navigation system is. The Shark AI uses a series of sensors to create a pinpoint-accurate floorplan of your home, which you can modify in the SharkClean smartphone app to include no-go zones, add room names, and create cleaning schedules.

Still not convinced? Well, what if we told you that the Shark AI also comes with high-tech AI-guided laser sensors to detect obstacles as small as 4 inches in its path? The AI will actively avoid things like pet bowls, furniture legs, and boots by actively identifying their location relative to the digital map.

Shark EZ

The Shark EZ shares more in common with the Shark IQ than any of the other models in this guide. First of all, they both sport multi-surface bristled brush rolls that make cleaning carpets and bare floors a breeze.

They also feature the same row-by-row navigation system, which isn’t the most efficient but provides a good chance at touching every square inch of your floors.

The dual-side brushes actively draw in debris from either side, ensuring that it picks up any large and small debris from edge to edge.

While the side brushes may not be as effective on carpets, the robot’s pattern will eventually pick up any debris that the brushes toss to the side.

As we indirectly mentioned earlier, the Shark EZ’s self-empty base is the smallest of them all. It can only store about 30 days’ worth of floor debris at a time, but at least you can still ignore your robot for a month at a time before coming back to empty the bagless, unfiltered base.

Shark ION

Last but not least, we have the Shark ION—the most simplistic robot in this guide. It doesn’t come with a self-empty base, nor does it sport AI-guided obstacle-sensing lasers, nor does its brush roll actively get rid of hair tangles as the Shark AI does. So, what does this robot have going for it? It’s the most budget-friendly robot of them all.

As such, you won’t get mapping capabilities or selective-room cleaning. Instead, the Shark ION will randomly patrol your floors in the hopes that it’ll eventually pick up debris. Thankfully, its motor is powerful enough to deliver enough suction to remove more than just surface debris from low-pile carpeting.

What the Shark ION does have going for it is voice support, which the other robots also have. By syncing the robot to an Alexa or Assistant device, you can send simple start/stop/recharge commands to your ION without lifting a finger.
