Shark AV911S EZ vs AV2501AE AI Self-Empty Base Robot Vacuums

Are you looking for a new robot vacuum cleaner? Well, there’s no better place to start than by looking at Shark’s lineup of robots, especially if you’re in the market for something high-end.

The only problem you’ll have is determining whether you want the older AV911S EZ or the flagship AV2501AE AI. Check out our comparison down below to see which one belongs in your home.

Shark AV911S EZ

Powerful Suction

While there’s no technical information regarding how much the Shark AV911S EZ sucks in terms of Pa or bars, test runs show that it does a stellar job at picking up most fine dust and nearly all large debris, such as cereal and dry dog food. However, it’s not the most powerful robot on the planet, so you’ll have to look elsewhere (such as the AV2501AE) if you prioritize ultimate cleanliness in a single vacuum cycle.

Row-by-Row Movement Route

The Shark AV911S EZ isn’t a high-tech robot by any means. It doesn’t sport state-of-the-art navigation software or AI-guided lasers. Instead, in order to clean your floors, it moves in a methodical row-by-row pattern while also moving from room to room. What this means is that it can pick up most debris in a room, but there’s a chance that it’ll miss some spots here and there.

Recharge and Resume

Despite being a modest robot in this day and age, at least in terms of navigation tech and whatnot, what’s pretty surprising is how the AV911S has the auto-recharge and resume function that we love so much.

This function pretty much eliminates the need to worry about maximum runtime since it will head back to its charging dock to refuel and step off the charging base to resume cleaning precisely where it left off.

Singe-Tap Operation and Voice Support

Controlling the Shark AV911S EZ is a lot more convenient after downloading the SharkClean app and syncing it to your phone. However, the app for the AV911S is quite limited. Since there’s no navigation tech, you can’t program it to clean specific rooms or avoid certain areas. Instead, what the app does is let you create cleaning schedules and command it when to start/stop/recharge.

If that’s not enough, you might be interested to know that the AV911S, as well as the AV2501AE, is compatible with an Alexa or Assistant smart speaker. Simply shout your orders at your virtual assistant, and she’ll relay the commands to your AV911S.

Self-Emptying Base

Like many of the best modern-day robots, the AV991S, as well as the AV2501AE, comes with a self-emptying base. What this does is collect dust out of the robot’s dustbin and store it for disposal later on.

The self-emptying base can hold up to 30 days’ worth of junk at a time before you need to dump the contents out. As for the AV2501AE, its self-emptying base can hold twice as much before reaching max capacity. Both self-emptying bases are bagless, so you don’t need to purchase replacement bags ever so often.

Powerfins

When you flip the Shark AV2501AE AI over, you’ll notice that the brush roll doesn’t come with bristles. It comes with several silicone fins, known as Powerfins, that massage bare floors and dig deep into carpet fibers to extract all the hidden junk within. What makes the brush roll’s design pretty awesome is how pet and human hair don’t stick to it like they normally would with bristled brush rolls.

30% Greater Cleaning Power with UltraClean

As a new Shark robot, the Shark AV2501AE AI has an upgraded motor that, according to Shark, delivers up to 30% more suction power than its predecessors, the AV911S included.

By activating UltraClean mode, the robot can effectively suck up hidden debris in carpets and in tile grout a lot better, leaving your floors cleaner than ever before. The consequence of running UltraClean mode is halving the runtime, but with auto-recharge and resume, that’s not a problem.

Laser-Navigated Obstacle Avoidance

What makes the Shark AV2501AE AI unique from other robot vacuum cleaners, including the AV911S, is its built-in AI-guided camera. What it does is constantly scan its surroundings and locate obstacles, which the robot will actively avoid.

The camera can detect objects as small as 4 inches in height, so the robot won’t bother bumping into furniture legs or large pet bowls.

SharkClean Smartphone App

Here’s something both Shark robots share in common: they’re both compatible with the SharkClean smartphone app. However, there are perks of the SharkClean app for this robot that aren’t available for the AZ911S.

For instance, you’ll gain access to the robot’s mapping capabilities, selective cleaning modes, and to create virtual barriers that it can’t pass. The app can be iffy at times, but we can expect an upgrade sometime in the near future (hopefully).
