Shark has just recently joined the robotic vacuum cleaner game. What’s most surprising is that each new Shark robot release surpasses expectations in glorious fashion. Today, we’re going to look at the Shark IQ AV1002AE Robot Vacuum, a handy-dandy device that offers incredible suction power and comes with a self-maintaining charging base.
Multi-Surface, Self-Cleaning Brush Roll
As you might expect from a Shark-made vacuum cleaner, the AV1002AE is designed to be as pet-friendly as possible. As such, it can clean all kinds of surfaces, from bare floorboards to medium-pile carpeting.
It comes with a self-cleaning rubber brush roll that reduces the risk of tangling while also excellent beating powers to dislodge debris from carpet fibers. Combined with a powerful motor that delivers intense suction, you’ve got a pretty handy robot that’s more than equipped to remove pet hair from your floors.
Total Home Mapping
Thanks to IQ Navigation Technology, the AV1002AE can map out your entire hope in incredible detail. It doesn’t randomly bounce off of walls while vacuuming your floors, but instead, it follows a highly specific preprogrammed route to save energy while boosting vacuuming coverage and performance.
Some users claim that a fully charged AV1002AE can clean up to 2,800 square feet in just 1.5 cleaning cycles.
However, the biggest gripe people have with the navigation is that it’s not 100% accurate. It can miscalculate distances and accidentally bump into obstacles before needing to reverse, turn, and go on its way. Thankfully, the cliff sensors work like a charm.
App and Voice Support
After the AV1002AE performs an initial scan of your home, you can access the digital map by opening the SharkClean smartphone app. There, you can define rooms, select specific rooms for the AV1002AE to focus its cleaning efforts on, and program cleaning schedules that fit your lifestyle. Alternatively, you can scream at your Alexa or Assistant speaker to relay commands (start, stop, recharge, and selective cleaning) to your robot.

Recharge and Resume
The AV1002AE has a decently long battery life per charge. A fully charged battery can supply as much as 90 minutes when vacuuming bare floors and about half the amount of time when cleaning carpeted surfaces exclusively. As soon as the robot’s battery runs low, it’ll make a bee-line to its charging dock, where it will refuel to 80% before picking up where it left off.
Self-Emptying Charging Station
But perhaps the AV1002AE’s greatest selling point is its self-emptying base. The charging dock doubles as a vacuum cleaner, which extracts the debris from the AV1002AE’s dustbin every time it returns to home base. This model can store up to 45 days’ worth of debris before you need to replace the charging station’s filter-lined bag.
Verdict: An Excellent Pet-Friendly Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
So, should you get the Shark AV1002AE? There’s no denying that it’s a fantastic robot that comes with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a premium-grade robot.
While there’s definitely room for improvement in terms of navigation and mapping, it really does make maintaining carpets and floors a breeze. The 45-day self-emptying charging dock is the real life-saver here!
- FORGET ABOUT EMPTYING: Robot self-empties with each clean in a bagless base that holds up...
- INCREDIBLE SUCTION: Deep-cleaning power to tackle large and small debris, and pet hair on...
