As the leader of the robot vacuum cleaner pack, you really can’t go wrong when choosing any modern-day Roomba. However, with comparing three highly competitive Roombas—the i3+, the j7+, and the s9+–how do you determine which one deserves your love the most? Find out after reading our brief comparison of these three top-tier Roombas.
iRobot Roomba i3+
While iRobot doesn’t make the Roomba i3+’s Pa rating easy to find, the company claims that it’s 10 times more powerful than the Roomba 600 series, which is actually quite a lot. Not only does it offer extraordinary suction power, but it does a fantastic job at picking up messes of all kinds, thanks to the help of its multi-surface rubber brush roll.

The brush doesn’t just pull debris in; it also extracts embedded animal and human hair from carpet fibers without the slightest indication of tangling.
Something you’ll be happy to know about the i3+, as well as the j7+ and s9+ models, is that it comes with Reactive Sensors. These sensors constantly scan its surroundings to help the i3+ determine whether it can or cannot travel to certain parts of your home. For instance, it’ll know not to lodge itself between two adjacent pieces of furniture.
Another feature that you’ll find in all three Roombas is its self-emptying base. The base suctions debris out of the robots, thereby leaving their dustbins completely empty and ready for subsequent vacuuming sessions. All of their self-emptying bases can store up to 60 days’ worth of debris at max.

iRobot Roomba j7+
What we know about the iRobot Roomba j7+ in terms of suction power is that it produces only about 1800 Pa at max. Now, this might not be so impressive, especially considering that the s9+ outputs an estimated 2500 Pa on Carpet Boost mode.
However, for the most part, 1800 Pa is the bare minimum to remove more than surface debris from carpets, let alone on ceramic tiles and floorboards. It also boosts the same Carpet Boost technology as the s9+ to make vacuuming carpets even more efficient.

Like the other Roombas in this comparison, the j7+ can store multiple floorplans, allowing it to immediately commence cleaning in different stories of your home. Simply set it down on any floor, and it’ll immediately recognize its surroundings and pull out the relevant map. The j7+ can store up to four floorplans.
One thing that separates the iRobot Roomba j7+ from the other Roombas is P.O.O.P. We’re not trying to be funny; this is iRobot’s Pet Owner Official Promise, which states that if the j7+ steps into solid animal waste, the company will replace your j7+ completely free of charge. It’s so confident in the robot’s built-in camera to detect animal poop and avoid it that iRobot is willing to put its money where its mouth is. Now, that’s bold!
Another bold feature, at least in our opinion, is how all three of these robots will pick up on your habits over time. They keep track of how often you run them, when you run them, and which parts of your home you clean most frequently. In addition, they’ll offer helpful suggestions, such as increasing vacuuming frequency during allergy season.

iRobot Roomba s9+
Lastly, we have the iRobot Roomba s9+, which is the most powerful Roomba of the three in this comparison. We’ve spoken about how much more suction power it delivers than the j7+, which is already more than the i3+, so let’s skip to the juicy stuff.

For instance, did you know that the s9+ comes with PerfectEdge Technology? A series of sensors keep tabs of where a wall is relative to the robot’s position in order to direct its Corner Brush along baseboards for enhanced edge cleaning. The fact that the brushes are 30% wider than older Roombas helps it get into edges and corners a lot more effectively.
The s9+ comes with an improved navigation system as opposed to the i3+. With vSLAM, the s9+ learns the layout of your home in just a single pass before creating the most efficient cleaning route possible. Like the j7+, this robot can detect newly made messes and will jump off its programmed trajectory to clean off-to-the-side dirt piles up before going back to work.
Something we haven’t mentioned until now is that all three of these Roombas can form a tag-team duo with the iRobot Braava jet m6 (sold separately or in a bundle). The jet m6 is a mop-only bot that can commence its mopping cycle as soon as any of these Roombas is done. This tag-team partnership makes up for the fact that none of these Roombas are hybrid models.
