Bissell MultiClean Allergen Lift-OFF Pet Slim Upright Vacuum 31259 Review

You probably think that if you’ve seen one upright vacuum cleaner then you’ve seen them all. For the most part, that’d be correct, but wait until you lay eyes on the Bissell 31259 MultiClean Lift-Off Slim—a beast of an upright that makes cleaning floors, ceilings, and any flat surface in between a breeze!

7-Amp Motor

Let’s take a look at the motor since it’s the heart and soul of any upright. The 31259 features a hefty 7-amp motor that delivers an astounding amount of suction pressure to rid bare and carpeted floors of more than just surface debris.

While there is no definitive suction power rating (bars or Pascals), users claim that it produces similar amounts of cleaning power as high-end uprights. It only comes with one suction mode, so you won’t have to worry about shifting “gears” when transitioning from bare floors to carpets and vice versa.

Whatever gets suctioned into the tank will be divided up based on their size. So, large debris, such as cereal and pet hair, will spin around in the cyclone, while ultrafine debris settles at the bottom, resulting in a longer-lasting HEPA filter (six months of usage at most).

Slim 11.75-Inch Floorhead

The MultiClean Lift-Off comes in two variants—standard and Slim. The 31259 is the Slim version, which has an 11.75-inch floorhead that makes maneuvering around obstacles relatively effortless.

A narrower floorhead ultimately means less prep work before vacuuming, so you can leave most—if not all—of your furniture in place while moving the 31259’s floorhead from room to room.

Of course, the Slim will require more passes to clean spacious floors, but with a floorhead that’s nearly a foot wide, combined with outstanding suction performance, you can still clean large-area floors without making excessive passes.

Optional Tangle-Free Brush Roll with Auto-Height Adjustment

One thing upright vacuum cleaners users found is that the beater brush can do more harm than good on marble tiles, floorboards, and vinyl. But with an optional brush roll—namely, one that you can turn on and off at will—that’s no longer a problem!

You can activate or deactivate the 31259’s brush roll at any time, depending on what type of floors you’re currently cleaning. To rid carpets of more than just surface debris, simply turn on the brush roll/beater brush, and it’ll instantly dig deep into carpet fibers to extract long-forgotten bits of debris.

Inside of the floorhead is a single-helical row of stiff bristles. They don’t just extract dirt from the roots of carpet and area rugs, but they also push hair to the side of the brush, making it easier for the vacuum cleaner to clean. Without such a design in place, you’d be left snipping away hairballs every so often.

Better yet, the 31259’s floorhead has a floating brush roll that automatically adjusts its height based on your floor’s surface. That way, you don’t have to push down on the vacuum’s handle to clean your carpet fibers’ roots. Simply push and pull your 31259 over any carpet and rug, and the brush roll will automatically maintain constant contact with the ground.

Did we mention that the 31529’s brush roll is also tangle-free? It sucks in long strands of hair rather than curling them around the brush roll, which can cause it to get stuck and, in extreme cases, lead to burnout. You’ll have to snip a wad of hair out with a pair of scissors on occasion, but that’s not uncommon, even in tangle-free brush rolls.

2-in-1 Lift-Off Technology

Here’s where things get interesting. Shark was one of the first manufacturers to introduce 2-in-1 upright-and-handheld convertible vacuum cleaners, and we’re happy to see that Bissell has followed suit.

The 31259 features Lift-Off Technology, which allows you to detach the motor and canister housing from the long handle to remove dust and debris from above-floor surfaces. In handheld mode, the 31259 is considerably lighter and uses a 7-foot-long suction hose with either a combination crevice/dusting brush or a Pet TurboEraser Tool to clean upholstery and auto interior.

SmartSeal System

It goes without saying that the MultiClean Lift-Off Slim is a pet-parent-friendly upright since, after all, it is a Bissell production. What you’ll find is that the tank is protected by Bissell’s SmartSeal System, which prevents dust from leaking out and spilling onto your floors.

HEPA Sealed Allergen System

The entire unit is protected with a HEPA Sealed Allergen System that prevents suctioned-in particles from escaping the dustbin and going airborne. It can pick up hair, dander, pollen, and dust particles as small as 0.3 microns with 99.97% efficiency.

This unit also comes with a standard washable pre-motor filter to prevent larger clumps of hair and debris from overworking the motor. Make sure you wash and dry the filter after each vacuuming session for the best results.

Easy-Empty 0.75-Liter Dustbin

Removing the contents from the 0.75-liter dustbin is a breeze. A simple press of a button is all it takes to detach the Easy-Empty dustbin, and a few good whacks on the base will send the contents flying out. The inner lining is rather sleek, so you won’t have to use your fingers to fish out gross hairballs.
