Dyson V10 Comparison – How The V10 Stick Vacuums Are Different

Dyson has a reputation in the vacuum cleaner industry as a game-changer with approximately one-third of the employees on its payroll having a background in science and engineering. It seems like every time you turn around, Dyson has either invented a new, innovative product or improved upon an existing product line.

The Dyson Cyclone V10 Cordless Stick Vacuums

The company’s line of Cyclone V10 cordless stick vacuums is one of Dyson’s latest creations. These stick vacuums offer incredible suction and filtration along with a smartly designed nozzle and a comprehensive selection of attachments. Plus, all three Cyclone V10 vacuums are convertible, allowing you to go back and forth between using them as a stick vac and a handheld vac.

You’ll be blown away by the power of the battery, which lasts as long as an hour per complete charge. To get the most from the battery’s charge, each vacuum cleaner is equipped with a trigger button, and the wall dock provides an off-the-floor storage solution for the vacuum and its tools.

Like Dyson’s other vacuums, the V10 sticks are equipped with a top-notch filtration system, which includes a HEPA filter and over two dozen dust-separating cyclones. The dirt bin on every V10 holds one-half liter of debris or more to save you time and hassle, and these stick vacuums offer quiet performance no matter which of three suction speeds you choose.

A DC Motor

It’s clear that Dyson carefully chose a DC motor to put in its range of cordless stick vacuums. A DC motor offers a high starting torque that remains consistent; therefore, the V10s are able to suction all types of debris, including grass, soil, dust, cereal and pet hair.

DC motors are also the ideal kind of motor to pair with an external speed control such as the one on the V10 vacuums. Each of these stick vacs offers three suction speed options, allowing you to lower the suction to clean upholstery and raise it to vacuum high-pile carpet by sliding the suction-speed switch near the exhaust outlet.

Of course, DC motors aren’t perfect. One problem that plagues them is a high level of vibrations that make them prone to cracks and fissures. To prevent this issue, Dyson surrounded the motor in material that’s specifically designed to absorb vibrations, and the airflow paths are kept in a straight line to make sure the noise output stays low for a non-disruptive vacuuming experience.

Even though it’s powerful, Dyson’s digital Cyclone V10 motor is incredibly lightweight too. The Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead weighs about 5.5 pounds while the Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal and the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute are only a few ounces heavier. Since the motor is often the heaviest component of a vacuum cleaner, you get the advantage of a vacuum that is easy to push and carry.

A Separate Handheld Vacuum

There are a few full-size vacuums on the market that are convertible, meaning a portion of them lifts away for handheld vacuuming, and the Dyson V10s are examples of a 2-in-1 vacuum done right. These vacuum cleaners are designed to transform into a hand vac easily and quickly at the touch of a button, so you can vacuum any area of your home or car. No struggling with locking mechanisms or ill-fitting parts.

With a cordless stick vacuum, you don’t want to waste any of the battery’s charge. Instead of a rocker switch, you have to flip or a button you must depress, the Absolute, Animal, and Motorhead are equipped with a trigger. Simply push the trigger to generate suction and let it go to power off the vacuum.

Some handheld vacuums with an extension wand tend to feel awkward in your hand and can be difficult to control. Dyson eliminated the possibility of instability by precisely positioning the vacuums’ center of gravity. The use of a pistol-grip handle only enhances their ability to stay steady even when you’re cleaning spaces above your head.

Efficient Floor Nozzles

From the way they pick up debris to how they eliminate maintenance hassles, the floor nozzles that come with the V10s are efficient and streamlined. All three V10 models have a direct-drive floor nozzle. This nozzle contains a rolling brush made of soft nylon, which is affixed with spiral-pattern carbon fiber filaments to ensure the vacuums can lift fine and coarse particles for all surfaces.

The Absolute comes with an additional floor nozzle that has two soft brushrolls, which are well-adept are picking up the dust that accumulates on hardwood, tile and other hard floors. This nozzle head is interchangeable with the direct-drive head, and it only takes a few seconds to switch between them.

Both floor heads are agile. Each one boasts a pivoting joint that lets you turn corners with ease. They also have a slim profile, so you can vacuum under almost any piece of furniture as opposed to throwing out your back while pushing and tugging at your sofa. If you’re cleaning in a hurry for last-minute visitors, the floor nozzles’ width of 10.1 inches helps you cover a lot of square footage fast.

Unlike many vacuums, the V10s’ floor nozzles are simple to maintain. You don’t have to scour your house for a screwdriver and fight with the tension of a belt. Both nozzles have a coin slot you can turn to slide out the brushroll and remove the offending item. You can also clean the soft brushrolls on the hard-floor nozzle by rinsing the brush bars and letting them dry.

Multiple Tools on Every Model

Whether you go for the all-encompassing Absolute, the well-rounded Motorhead or the pet-centric Animal, you get more than one attachment to use in handheld mode. The Dyson Cyclone V10 Motorhead stick vacuum comes with a crevice tool that reaches deep into awkward spaces in cars and in between couch cushions. It also comes with a combo crevice-brush to meet all your above-floor needs.

With the Animal and the Absolute, you get two more tools. The elongated soft brush is great for cleaning delicate electronics and window treatments. Then, there is the mini motorized brush, which you can use for vacuuming your stairs or upholstery.

Each one of the three Dyson Cyclone V10 stick vacs offers close-range and extended-reach capabilities. If you need to vacuum high surfaces, you can keep the wand attached and just remove the floor nozzle. Alternatively, you can push the wand-release button above the pole and connect the attachment of your choice to the suction inlet located directly below the dirt cup.

A Seven-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery

A common complaint among cordless stick vacuum owners is a battery charge that doesn’t last long. However, the Dyson V10 cordless vacuums contain a high-capacity lithium-ion battery with seven cells. This battery lasts 60 minutes tops according to the suction speed you select.

The battery doesn’t detract the vacuums’ suction performance when it has a low charge. Inside of the battery pack, there are altitude sensors that kick the battery into high gear to compensate for the reduced power caused to a DC motor when used in high altitudes, giving you unwavering suction.

Charging any of these vacuums is easy, and you only have to wait 3.5 hours for the battery to replenish. Each stick vac comes with a charging dock that hangs on the wall. This dock offers two more benefits. First, it saves the space the vacuums would otherwise occupy in a closet. Second, the dock also has storage spots for all the tools that come with these vacuum cleaners.

Total Filtration

Filtration begins the moment you press the trigger. The V10 motor produces a whopping 79,000 grams-force of suction. The suction is funneled through the vacuums’ two-tier, 14-cyclone system, which is powerful enough to effectively separate dust from large particles.

Fine dust suctioned by the vacuum is directed to the HEPA filter that captures 99.97 percent of the dust and other allergens as small as 0.3 microns. There is also a post-motor filter that not only helps to keep particles out of the air but also dampens motor-related noise.

Dirt and debris are dropped into the stick vacs’ translucent bin. The Absolute and the Animal’s dirt bin holds 0.77 liters of debris while the Motorhead’s bin has a max capacity of 0.54 liters, lending to the vacuum cleaner’s slightly lighter weight. Despite their differing bin sizes, every V10 model’s dirt bin opens from the bottom, rapidly ejecting as you push the sliding lever, which prevents the debris from dirtying your hands or entering your lungs.

Dyson V10’s: An Adaptable Approach to Vacuuming

The Dyson Cyclone V10 stick vacs adapt to any vacuuming chore, performing dependably every step of the way. The high-torque DC motor produces strong suction at all three speeds, yet it doesn’t overpower the room with disturbing noise thanks to the inclusion of sound-dampening materials. It’s also amazingly easy to go from stick to handheld and back again, and the floor nozzles are easy to maintain and extremely nimble.

Due to a balanced center of gravity and a weight of under 6 pounds, holding the wand up high poses no problem. A lithium-ion battery that lasts 60 minutes means you can complete all your household chores in one run, especially with a trigger that’s designed to save the battery’s charge. Plus, the wall-mounted dock offers unrivaled convenience for charging and tool storage.

The smaller dirt bin on the Dyson V10 Motorhead makes it great for small homes and one-story abodes. Since the Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal and the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute stick vacuum come with twice as many attachments as the Motorhead, these two V10 models are well-suited for people who own pets, have stairs in their home or like to detail their cars themselves. With the Absolute’s extra floor nozzle, this Cyclone V10 stick vac excels in homes without carpet or with a combination of carpet and hard floors.
