Removing airborne particles and viruses has become increasingly more important as of late. To do so, you’ll need a high-quality air purifier that’s built with top-of-the-line filters that trap the smallest contaminants in your home. Today, we’re looking at one such device—the Bissell air320 Smart Air Purifier—to see whether it’s up to the task. Read our review to find out!

Air Purifying Performance Ratings
First things first, how well does the air320 perform? Looking at its CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) figures for dust, smoke, and pollen, this Bissel-made device’s ratings are 206, 198, and 241 CFM, respectively.
In laymen’s terms, it’s nowhere near as effective as some of the top-tier air purifiers on the market, but the low figures may be a result of the device’s use of a HEPA filter. All things considered, despite its technically “low” ratings, the air320 is a top-notch air purifier that can handle most common indoor pollutants and allergens.
Triple-Tier Filtration
Here’s where things get exciting. Built into the air320 is a triple-tier filtration system. The first line of defense is a standard, washable pre-filter that traps larger contaminants (lint, dust, and pet hair) from the air, preventing them from clogging the subsequent filter layers.

The second filter is a HEPA filter that’s designed to trap microscopic contaminants down to 0.3 microns in size with 99.97% efficiency. Finally, foul odor molecules and VOCs get absorbed into the activated carbon filter. The second and third filters require changing once every six months to maintain optimal performance.

308-Square-Foot Coverage
The air320 has a maximum reach of 308 square feet, which is more than enough to handle most kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and even multiple rooms in apartments.
With five different fan speeds, you can fine-tune this air purifier to meet your exact air-purifying demands without going overboard in terms of energy consumption. However, spiked energy bills due to the air320 shouldn’t be a concern as…

Energy Star Certification
…the device is Energy Star certified. An Energy Star certification denotes that an appliance consumes low levels of energy. Thankfully, low energy consumption doesn’t translate to inferior purifying performance in the air320, even in the 250-plus-square-foot rooms.
CirQulate System
What users will find most impressive about this compact, eye-pleasing air purifier is that it has sensors built into it that detect how concentrated pollutants are in the air and adjust its fan speed accordingly.
The CirQulate System consists of a sensor that constantly checks indoor air quality. If it reaches a certain threshold, the air320 will automatically kick into gear to eliminate the airborne contaminants in as little time as possible. Just make sure you wipe the sensor every now and again.

Single-Dial Control
The Bissell air320 couldn’t be easier to use. It doesn’t come with a confusing control panel with numerous buttons and unexplained graphics or symbols.
Instead, it has a single-dial control that you depress and turn to scroll between settings. Depressing the dial will let you turn the device on and off, as well as reset the unit after replacing the filter. Turning the dial clockwise will let you choose between the five available fan speeds.
