With the CFM that the T500 has, any larger than this and you are going to get fewer air exchanges per hour.
Filter options are another nice plus to this model. The standard filter is similar to a basic HEPA filter, as it focuses mainly on particle allergens and irritants in the air, like pollen, pet dander, dust mite allergen, mold spores, etc. The prefilter is washable (rest of the filter is not), but should you need more specialized filtration, say a focus on removing microbes, bacteria and viruses or a focus on smoke, odors and VOCs, there are a couple other filter options available that integrate active carbon or silver technology to achieve these more particular filtration goals.
Optional ionizer. They key to this is the “optional” part. One of my biggest complaints with some air purifiers is that the ionizer is not optional. With the T500, if you don’t want it on, simply turn it off. Though i have never been a big fan of this style of filtration, that fact that it is optional AND that is does not produce any ozone make it a decent option.
As an Energy Star qualified appliance, the Alen T500 tower uses very little power. Even with continuous operation, power consumption will be less than if you kept a 60 watt light bulb on. So the yearly impact on your electric bill will nearly be unnoticeable.

I was skeptical at first about having an air purifier. But then again, I recently moved in to a new apartment that does not have good air circulation and gets really dusty if I leave my sliding glass door open. I also have a yellow lab. Thus, with the combination of dusty, poor air circulation, and pet dander the quality of air can really suffer. After reading many many many reviews i made the decision to buy this unit since it states it will cover 500 square feet. My thoughts so far.
Size/look: it is a very good small compact size. This is great because finding a place for it was not a problem. The look of it is nice because it just looks like a mini tower fan.
Claim on 500 square ft:The manual does claim it will do cover 500 square feet on HIGH. It states 300 square feet on medium and at last 150 square feet on low. That being said lots of people have complained about the noise. I found reviews that this does put out more decibel than other purifiers in it is class.
But then again, even on high the noise does not bother me. For me it make just a little, if not the same, amount of noise as a tower fan. I don’t have to turn my TV up any louder than normal (I do have a home theater system. Don’t know if that would make much difference if I did not have one). I also don’t have it placed right next to my TV/couch. It is place in between the kitchen and family room.
Installation: Took more time to take out of package than to installation. Really easy.
Test: I closed all the windows to my bedroom and turned this on HIGH then closed the door. I found that in the mornings it is the most stuffy feeling in there. I came back an hour or two at a later time and noticed a significant difference in air from before and from the family room. I now have it in my family room and will leave it there for a few days. I will write an update.
Another review
We have had two of these for several months. One is in our bedroom & the other in the living-dining area. The upstairs does not have one & I can certainly tell a difference between where they’re running & where they’re not. I can tell by the decreased dust at home that the purifier is working. It has visibly decreased by most likely 75% which is great.
It is silent on low & medium but too loud on high to be useful; but then again, it does such a good job on the medium speed, after about the second day, there has been no need to run it any higher. The one complaint I have is that there’s no 24-hour multi-cycle available. If there were, I would most likely configure it to run on high speed during the day in the bedroom & overnight in the rest of the downstairs or even to go off for part of the day to save money.
Resetting it each and every 12 hours is totally impractical, so I just keep it on medium speed on a regular basis. This is truly more than just an inconvenience. I would consider it a design flaw that needs to be seriously reconsidered.

A: It has a hepa filter and a prefilter that catches large dust particles. The filter will need changing each and every six months. Furniture will need dusting the moment a week.
