Levoit LV-H128 HEPA Air Purifier Review

With the way the world is reacting to germs and airborne pollutants, now is the best time to invest in an air purifier. An air purifier is a simple device that traps airborne particles in a built-in filter before shooting fresh, contaminant-free air back into your home. Today, we’re going to look at one of Levoit’s most popular creations—the LV-H128 Air Purifier—to see if this the right pick for your home.

3-Stage Filtration

The stages of an air purifier refer to how many filters air passes before being introduced back into a room. The higher the stage count, the more thoroughly it cleans indoor air. The LV-H128 comes with the standard 3-stage setup that consists of a prefilter, an H13 HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter.

The H13 HEPA filter is the real MVP in the LV-H128 as it traps particles as tiny as 0.3 microns in size up to 99.97 percent of the time. However, you can’t ignore the odor-trapping magnificence of the activated carbon filter that leaves air smelling cleaner and fresher in the end.

Filter Indicator

One of the most confusing things about owning an air purifier is knowing when to swap the filter out with a fresh one. With the LV-H128, you won’t need to concern yourselves over such a tiny thing since it has a built-in filter indicator that alerts users as to when the H13 HEPA filter needs to be swapped out.

Without the indicator, you’re putting your family at risk of inhaling old dirt and mold from the old filter. Each of Levoit’s H13 HEPA filters have an estimated lifespan of between six and eight months.

161-squafe-foot Coverage

One of the key factors customers should consider is whether an air purifier is the right size for a certain room. The LV-H128 has a max effective coverage range of 161 square feet, which is just slightly larger than the standard American bedroom size. However, kitchens and living rooms may be out of the question for the LV-H128, and you’ll have to shop for another air purifier elsewhere.

Aromatherapy

If you enjoy using a diffuser in your bedroom, then you’ll undoubtedly love the LV-H128’s aromatherapy feature. The LV-H128 lets you add two to three droplets of your favorite essential oil, which is then distributed across 161 square feet of air space. If you live with pets, take our word for it—this is a MUST-HAVE feature in an air purifier!

No Air Quality Sensors

One thing that the LV-H128 cannot guarantee is hands-off controls. This appliance does not come with a remote control, nor is it compatible with one. It’s almost missing air quality sensors that allows the motor to automatically shift between the three available fan speeds based on the pollution concentration levels of a room.

You’ll need to press the single control button on select your desired fan speed. Considering the size of this air purifier, the missing air quality sensor is by no means a deal-breaker.

Compact Size

This is pretty much a given, seeing as how the LV-H128 has a limited reach of just 161 square feet. The unit leaves a 7 by 7-inch footprint while standing just under 11 inches in height. The compactness of the LV-H128 allows you to place it anywhere you like and carry it with you when moving between rooms.

Ozone Free

Levoit makes it clear that the LV-H128 does produces zero ozone, a lung irritant. This is actually not a surprise at all, considering that the LV-H128 does not have a built-in UV-C chamber or an ionizing feature. Without these, ozone-free is a given.

Now, do you need an ionizer or UV-C virus-killing rays? Maybe, especially if you tend to leave your windows open during the daytime. However, if used incorrectly, you might be exposing your household to the devastating health effects of intolerable levels of the lung irritant.

No CADR

The Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) denotes how effective an air purifier is at removing three common types of airborne pollutants: smoke, dust, and pollen. A higher CADR rating for each category generally means better performance. Companies are not mandated to put their air purifiers through rigorous CADR tests, and Levoit has opted not to do so for the LV-H128.

This, however, does not mean Levoit has anything to hide; in fact, an H13 HEPA filter could actually bring its ratings down due to the limited amount of airflow that HEPA filters allow. So, if you’re concerned about the non-transparency of Levoit’s LV-H128, don’t be. Its H13 HEPA filter is reason enough to believe that the air purifier is a top-notch airborne-particle-snatching machine.

Air Recommended Air Purifiers

Our Pick Perfect for bedrooms, playrooms, and living rooms, the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH is one of the best-performing, most durable, and most economical purifiers we’ve tested.

Most Popular The Levoit Core 300 air purifier has some strong suits, but in our opinion it falls short of carving out a meaningful niche for itself. Its ideal use would be in a small bedroom occupied by someone who is sensitive to noise.

Also Great With high end air cleaning performance and a whisper quiet fan, the Winix 5500-2 is the perfect combination of power and finesse. It cleared airborne particulates out of our smokey testing room faster than any other model.

Best of the Best If you have a large space you want to remove irritants from, We recommend the Airmega 400S. All of Coway air purifiers do an excellent job of attacking indoor pollutants, and we highly recommend any of them. The 400S is designed to accommodate large room sizes.
