Although handheld vacuum cleaners aren’t very powerful, they certainly come in handy when you need to get rid of minor dust piles. Today, we’re going to look at and compare four of the classiest handheld vacuums to see which of them reigns supreme.

Shark CH951 Cordless Handheld Vacuum

The Shark CH9511 is one handheld vacuum that’s full of surprises. You’ll that it uses cyclonic air streams that, according to Shark, boosts airflow volume to 28 CFM to pick up larger pieces of debris, let alone ultrafine particles, without clogging the intake.

Like any handheld vacuum, the CH951 comes with three cleaning attachments—a standard crevice nozzle, and scrubbing brush, and a motorized detachable brush, which is a completely unique spot-cleaning attachment that uses silicone paddles to actively remove hair from upholstery by digging into the fibers and pulling it out. Don’t worry about hair strands stopping the brush roll since it’s self-cleaning.

Now, the CH951 isn’t whisper-quiet by any standard. It produces up to 77 decibels, which is up there with upright vacuums in terms of noise output. However, it’s a lightweight device (just 2.7 pounds) that comes with a sizable dust tank (0.45 quarts) that, on a full charge, can run for up to 12 minutes nonstop (after 2 hours of charging)

Bissell AeroSlim Lithium Ion Cordless Handheld Vacuum, 29869

As a Bissell-made vacuum cleaner, you know you’re getting a device that’s made to pick up after your pets. The AeroSlim 26869 is a highly portable, incredibly powerful—not to mention immensely affordable handheld vacuum that comes with a 7.4A motor that sucks up super-fine debris in an instant. It comes with a dual-tier filtration system that consists of a washable filter to prevent dust from escaping the 0.1-liter tank and spilling back onto your floors.

The AeroSlim 26869 doesn’t come with multiple cleaning tools like the Shark CH951. Instead, it has a single spot-cleaning attachment, the combination crevice tool and dusting brush, that you can use to get rid of crumbs from between cushions and grit from carpets and floormats without swapping between attachments.

Something you’ll find in many modern handheld vacs, including the AeroSlim 26869, is that they come with sizable battery packs that provide up to 12 minutes of runtime per charge. You’ll need to recharge the battery for 2.5 hours before getting the most cleaning time per charge. Also, the AeroSlim 26869 can stand upright on its own while charging—just thought we’d put that out there.

Eufy by Anker, HomeVac H11,Cordless Handheld Vacuum

Now, let’s take a look at the reddot winner for best design in 2020: the eufy HomeVac H11. On an empty dust tank, this handheld vacuum cleaner weighs a mere 1.2 pounds and is roughly the same size as a wine bottle, making it easy to use and clean overhead surfaces. According to eufy, it suctions at a rate of up to 5,500 Pa, which is immensely powerful for a cordless handheld vac.

When it comes to cleaning attachments, there’s nothing too fancy here. The HomeVac H11 comes with a 2-in-1 crevice tool and dusting brush that lets you clean multiple surfaces without swapping between tools. This, combined with the non-slip handle, makes it one of the easiest handheld vacs when it comes to spot-cleaning beneath furniture and in cars.

With the HomeVac H11, you’ll get up to 13 minutes of nonstop cleaning power per 2.5 hours of charging, a washable high-efficiency filter, and a micro-USB cord (no brick included) for charging. With the nozzle cap, the handheld vacuum can stand upright on its own.

BLACK+DECKER HLVC320J01 Hand Vacuum

The B+D HLVC320J01 is one of the most controversial handheld vacuum cleaners in this comparison guide. According to B+D, it can produce up to 3 times the suction power of the brand’s leading model, which isn’t saying much, especially when you combine this with the fact that it uses an extra-wide nozzle to pick up ultrafine debris.

Users mainly complain about the HLVC320J01’s ability to spot-clean carpeted surfaces. It works fantastically on bare floors and smooth surfaces, but when transitioning to upholstery or carpets, even the built-in extendable crevice tool won’t be of much help. That said, we think the nondetachable crevice tool and flip-up dusting brush are a nice touch.

For every 2.5 hours of charging, the HLVC320J01 can run for up to 14 minutes nonstop to suction up to about 0.1 liters of dirt before reaching max capacity. It also has a washable and reusable filter, though it’s not at the same standard as the Bissell AeroSlim. All in all, the HLVC320J01 is a decent handheld vac, but there’s certainly room for improvement.
