I purchased this air purifier to substitute a cheaply made and loud Holmes model that I purchased a couple of years ago from a local store. To be fair, the Holmes air purifier did a good job, but it was not amazing. So I bought the GermGuardian AC5350B Elite 4-in-1 Air Cleaning System because, I will not lie,
I liked how it looked in the pictures and, even more important, it had received generally very good recommendations. After just a couple of days use I can personally say it works pretty well. This unit is silent, works wonderfully, and is a visually eye-catching air purifier.
The only unfortunate thing I can say about the unit, and others have mentioned this problem as well, is that there’s a burning plastic smell the first few hours upon turning on the machine. My living area is medium sized, roughly 80 square feet, and the smell was quite noticable, particularly for the first hour.
I wonder if the GermGuardian AC5350B Elite 4-in-1 Air Purifier System is kind enough to suck up its own smell, but it didn’t. Luckily, the smell disappeared and this purifier has been very good ever since.
Some people are complaining about the glowing blue light, but if you are sensitive to that sort of thing you can simply shut off the UV while you sleep. It’ll continue to work amazingly without this feature operating, even though I do leave it on in the middle of the day while I am at work.
Pros: very good for allergies, silent purifying, visually eye-catching, will keep your space smelling nice, virtually no dust anywhere.
Cons: A smell when you use it for the first time.
