Design

The SoundAsleep Dream Series air mattresses are available in many sizes (Twin, Queen, and King) and offer you a sleeping experience next to none. The Queen-size option (58 by 78 inches) was reviewed and although slightly shorter than the normal Queen size, it is just as comfortable and spacious for a couple. We did not even notice the difference at all!

The mattress is quite thick measuring 19 inches, and is considered as being “double-sized” This compares very well to a normal mattress and the sleeping experience would be close to what you experience at home in your own bed.

The mattress’s surface has raised sides and would provide you with extra support when you lie close to the side. If the mattress deflates slightly, the raised sides’ support will safeguard you against falling off the mattress unexpectedly.

Inflating The Mattress

One of the everyday problems people experience is inflating the mattress with an efficient pump. Our parents used the mattress for visitors and always had a problem finding the pump or when the pump decided to stop working.

The SoundAsleep Dream Series air mattress has a built-in pump, so do not fear! We loved the ease of getting the product ready for use. Simply plug the cord into a 110 Volt outlet, switch it on and select the “inflate” setting.

If the voltage is different in your Country, you will need to purchase the relevant adaptor. The built-in pump could also create its’ own problems if you are using it when you go camping and do not have a power socket close-by.

If you should go camping and there is no power facility, you should consider a pump powered by a battery (vehicle), or either then consider using the manual method of inflating by using a hand-pump. SoundAsleep’s has a camping version suitable for use when you mainly want to use the mattress for camping, and you could consider rather buying that option.

The main benefit of an air mattress is that you have total control over the firmness that you require from your mattress. Some people like it softer, and other people like the mattress a bit harder. Trial and error would soon get you to your preference of firmness in no time at all.

Performance – Keeping Its Shape

The SoundAsleep Dream Series air mattresses is produced with their own ComfortCoil technology, which basically means that the mattress has 40 individual compartments that keep the mattress firm at all times – and this is really the case! When we slept on it, it did stretch a little but kept the shape well.

SoundAsleep Dream Series

There was no need to re-inflate at any time. We even had to deflate it a little to get to our preferred firmness and the comfort we were looking for. After three days of use, it was necessary to inflate it very slightly, which was an easy task with the built-in pump!

The surface of the mattress has a velvet feel to it, is a bit thicker, and also waterproof. The velvet top prevents the sheet from sliding, but unfortunately, it can become a bit moist at night.

To solve the problem, it would be a good idea to fit a comforter under the sheet and maybe to use linen sheets. The linen sheets would also help in regulating body temperature.

The mattress is produced from eco-friendly PVC and is claimed to be puncture-resistant and quite durable. It was tested for a week and held up well for this period of time. Other reviews claim three to four years of use before experiencing puncture holes or pumps that did not work that well anymore.

It is claimed that the “Suregrip” bottom of the mattress clings to hard surfaces and does not slide around, and thus prevents movement of the mattress if you are a restless sleeper.

Deflating The Mattress

Deflating the mattress is very easy when preparing it for storage. It only took about three and a half minutes and then can be stored in a very small space.

Warranty

The SoundAsleep Dream Series air mattress is covered by a warranty of one year, but is limited, providing that the mattress is not used as the main bed. In this case the warranty would become invalid.

Is This Mattress The Right One?

Pros

If you intend to use it on a smooth and flat surface like a floor, this is the one!

The Twin XL is large enough for a couple, but ensure that it is inflated fully to ensure that it carries the weight of two people.

The Queen mattress can carry a maximum of 500lb, so it should be good for a couple.

Being a double-height mattress, it is very easy to get up from because it is higher – compared to others where you basically have to get up from the floor.

Cons

There is a specific manufactured product if it is intended to be used outdoors and for camping purposes, main reasons being:

The mattress can’t be inflated with another pump.

Although quite strong and durable, it was not designed to be exposed to items that would potentially puncture it (rocks, sticks etc.).

This mattress – like so many others, has not been designed for continual use. If you intend to use this mattress for longer than seven days at a time, we would suggest that you look at other mattress options to solve your need.

Final Verdict

The SoundAsleep Dream Series Air Mattress performed very well, kept its’ shape and pressure and also had adequate support.

It would be advisable to inflate and deflate the mattress a few times if you do notice some sagging. This product is a very good temporary solution if extra beds are needed for guests and/or children – an investment well worth making!
