Although supposedly convenient, portable air conditioners haven’t caught on nearly as much as other home appliance and robotic devices.
Emerson Quiet Kool, a company that focuses entirely on portable air conditioners and dehumidifiers, is trying to turn that around with the Emerson Quiet Kool EAPC14RD1 Portable Air Conditioner. They label their products as “home comfort,” and aim for convenience, efficiency, and quiet operation. Whether or not they’ve achieved what they set out to, remains to be seen.
Auto Evaporation Technology
Perhaps the most attractive feature in this portable air conditioner is the auto-evaporation technology. As anyone who has ever used an air conditioner knows, the buildup of condensation can be a real problem – even when the appliance is stationary for as long as it is in use.
With a model that is designed to be moved around your home or office, Emerson needed to make sure puddles wouldn’t be left in its wake. Customers can’t speak more highly of the auto-evaporation technology.
Two-in-One
Although it isn’t clear if Emerson Quiet Kool intended this appliance to have dual functions, customers have noted that the auto evaporation technology has an added bonus.
Not only does it protect your home from water buildup or runoff from the product, it works as a dehumidifier as well.
The appliance is able to remove up to 127 pints of water a day on its own.
Because it can take care of itself, owners won’t need to get involved by remembering to dump a tank when it reaches the fill line. The air conditioner doesn’t need any supervision and won’t turn itself off unless you ask it to.
Versatility
Emerson Quiet Kool has included a window venting kit for use as the owner deems necessary. The appliance can be easily installed and used anywhere in the home or office where there is window access.
Maneuverability
The air conditioner also utilizes omnidirectional casters to roll easily from place to place, as well as handles on the side to enable easy lifting and carrying if you’re bringing it up or downstairs.
Customers have noted that the weight of the product can be unmanageable at 68.3lbs and that the wheels don’t do well with that much weight on them. It seems to struggle especially on carpeting, although hardwood or tile floors weren’t easy to navigate either. In some cases, customers got frustrated with the lack of maneuverability and the tendency for this weighty product to get caught on the lips between rooms.
The air conditioner measures 17.5″ x 14.8″ x 28.3″, which is the median size for other products in this bracket.
Convenience
With the air conditioner comes a remote control for users to be able to manipulate the machine wherever they are in the vicinity. You don’t need to worry about getting up to turn it on or off, or set it to a different fan speed.
It also has a 24 hour on/off timer, so the appliance can work when you want whether you’re there or not, and a sleep mode. Set the air conditioner to cool down your home before you arrive.
Multiple Speeds
Owners can maintain their comfort level by choosing one of three fan speeds – low, medium, or high – depending on the desired noise and operation level. Customers note that on beginning a cycle, the noise level gets pretty loud before settling down to an almost unnoticeable hum.
The highest fan speed has been said to provide an “arctic blast” to any room and maintain the temperature easily.
The digital display is easy to read and the temperature can be set anywhere from 62°F to 86°F.
Who is it for?
Emerson indicates that this air conditioner is best used in rooms up to 350 sq ft.
If you have a small household and don’t want to pay the electric bill for having an air conditioner in every room, this might be the product for you.
However, keep in mind that it isn’t as maneuverable as Emerson makes it out to be – the only repeat complaint from customers was the inability to drag the heavy appliance from room to room.

Emerson Quiet Kool EAPC14RD1: Last Words
The Emerson Quiet Kool EAPC14RD1 Portable Air Conditioner is available with a 1-2-5 year warranty (labor, parts, compressor in that order) and requires two AAA batteries for use. Overall customers seem happy with the output of this home appliance, in some cases even in environments that were larger than the recommended square footage.
The most noticeable downfall is that this appliance just isn’t as easy to move as Emerson makes it out to be, even on hardwood floors.
