Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Keypad Review

Yale Locks & Hardware may have over 150 years of locksmith expertise under its belt, but it has managed to keep pace with the always-evolving nature of technology. The Assure Lock is one of Yale’s most versatile and advanced smart Home-compatible locks.

Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Keypad Review

The Assure Lock offers several unlocking options. You can program hundreds of PIN codes into the keypad or use a traditional key. If you tie it into certain smart home or alarm systems, you open up a whole new world of control methods, including voice commands and smartphone apps. The one-touch locking function comes in handy when you’re in a hurry.

A volume adjuster and a smooth-locking deadbolt offer quiet operation. Features like wrong entry code and well-designed battery cover reduce the chance of a break-in. Yale also constructed the Assure Lock to conform to the moderate grade level of the American National Standards Institute.

Modern Inside and Out

Stuffy and clunky? Not this door lock. The Yale Assure Lock boasts a satin nickel finish and rounded edges. On the top portion of the elongated lock, there is a touchscreen with a shiny black background, giving the entire unit a decidedly modern appearance.

For ease of use, the numbers on the touchscreen keypad are backlit. These numbers will remain as pristine years from now as they will be the day you buy it – Yale made sure they wouldn’t wear off with use, weather or time.

Simple Setup

The technology may be advanced, but you don’t need an advanced degree to install this lock, just a screwdriver. With a few minutes of spare time, you can replace your front door’s existing deadbolt and adjust the latch of the Assure Lock as needed.

Once the lock is on the door, you can program it. The first step is to create and program a master PIN code, which you’ll need to change settings or revert back to the lock’s default settings. To make setup easy, the Assure Lock audibly guides you in the language of your choice – English, Spanish or French.

Smart Home Integration

This touchscreen lock is compatible with many smart home and smart alarm systems, including ADT, Honeywell, Iris, and Vera. You can check the status of the lock or instantly lock your door with voice commands via Alexa by linking the Assure Lock with Wink or Samsung SmartThings.

SmartThings is also one of several systems that give you smartphone access to the Assure Lock. However, the touchpad itself offers plenty of convenient features like three volume settings and one-touch locking. You can even engage privacy mode, which is like hanging a do-not-disturb sign on your door. If you have a Zigbee or Z-Wave module, you can program up to 250 four to eight-digit PIN codes as opposed to the keypad’s 25-code memory.

Battery Power With a Fail-Safe Backup

Supplying the Assure Lock with batteries is a cheap expense. The door lock requires four AA batteries, which are inexpensive, and the batteries usually last a year or more with regular use. When the battery level gets low, an indicator light illuminates on the touchpad. If the batteries die before you replace them, you can use one of the two physical keys that Yale provides.

Break-In Security

You don’t have to worry about unauthorized access or accidentally leaving your door unlocked. If someone enters the wrong code five times, the Assure Lock automatically disables the keypad function. You can also lockout all user codes by entering the master code. The auto-relock feature locks the door 30 seconds after you unlock it. Plus, the battery cover is tamper-resistant.

Durable Construction

Solid construction is a hallmark of Yale door locks, and the Assure Lock is no exception. The gasket seals the internals from damaging weather elements. The door lock is rated as a grade 2 certified lock by ANSI. Grade 2 locks like the Assure Lock meet the standards of light commercial and apartment buildings, which means they provide greater protection than the average lock on an exterior residential door.
