Over the course of a couple of years, indoor air quality has gone steadily declined. One of the best things you can do to guarantee cleaner indoor air at home is to get an air purifier. Today, we’re looking at the Toshiba Smart Air Purifier, a medium-range device that comes with state-of-the-art features for maximum performance and convenience.

222-Plus-Square-Foot Reach
The Toshiba Smart Air Purifier is designed as a small to medium air purifier with a range of 222 square feet. However, when in such confined spaces, the Toshiba can deliver up to five air changes per hour (ACH), so there’s plenty of cushion room to place the smart air purifier in more spacious areas.
Customers claim that their Toshiba Smart Air Purifier works reasonably well in 800-plus-square-foot rooms, including living room and kitchen, garages, and cellars.
AHAM-Verified CADR Ratings
If you want to gauge the effectiveness of an air purifier, there are two things you need to keep an eye out for. The first of which is AHAM-verified CADR figures, which denote how effective the device is at removing three types of airborne contaminants.
The Toshiba Smart Air Purifier’s CADR ratings are 145, 228, and 143 CFM for dust, smoke, and dander, respectively. Now, these ratings are far from being even close to the most effective residential air purifiers, many of which deliver over 300 CFM in all three categories. This is why Toshiba recommends keeping this smart air purifier in 222-square-foot rooms: to maintain maximum purifying performance.
Triple-Tier Filtration System
The second crucial component that affects how well an air purifier can clean the air in indoor spaces is the filter setup. The Toshiba comes with a triple-tier filtration system that consists of a washable pre-filter, an H13 True HEPA Filter, and an activated carbon filter.
The H13 HEPA Filter has the ability to filter 0.3-micron contaminants from the air at a rate of 99.97% efficiency. The HEPA filter might also play a role in the low CADR ratings since the ultra-fine mesh can inhibit airflow. However, in terms of purifying performance, no other type of filter even comes close to a True H13 HEPA Filter.
Filter Replacement Indicator
The H13 HEPA Filter has a maximum lifespan of 6 months, whereas the carbon activated filter can last for about 3 months at max. It’s imperative that you change the filter at the correct times to ensure that the air purifier doesn’t release old germs or mold spores back into the air.
The good thing about the Toshiba is that you don’t have to guesstimate when the filters need changing. This device has a filter replacement light that informs you when either of the filters is nearing their expiration date. After swapping out the old filters with new ones, just press and hold the UV control button to reset.
Now, one issue that has confused previous customers about the Toshiba Smart Air Purifier is where they can get replacement H13 HEPA Filters. This device is compatible with NEA-F1 HEPA and NEA-C1 filters by Eureka (sold separately).
Built-In UV Sanitizing Chamber
The Toshiba doesn’t just eliminate airborne particles with a 3-in-1 filtration setup. It also comes with an optional UV sanitizing light. When activated, germs and viruses that get exposed to the UV light are deconstructed at a molecular level, neutralizing the threat and reducing the risk of spreading infection and disease.
Just be mindful of how often you leave the UV sanitizing light on since it produces ozone—a lung irritant that can be harmful to humans at high levels.
Alexa Support
The Toshiba Smart Air Purifier can receive voice prompts via an Alexa device. Simply sync the air purifier to the smart speaker, and you’ll be able to control the air purifier’s cleaning speeds and UV light from afar.
Energy Star Certification
This air purifier doesn’t have a built-in timer function or air quality sensors, so you’ll have to manually turn the device on and off when not needed (or you can command Alexa to do it for you). But you can rest assured that even if you leave the Toshiba running for much longer than needed, the Energy Star Certification will prevent a huge spike in energy bills.
Whisper-Quiet Operation
When running your air purifier all night, you’ll hardly notice it in the background. The Toshiba Smart Air Purifier generates a minimum of 32 dBA, which is roughly the same noise level as rustling leaves. Its highest speed setting produces about 50 dBA, which is hardly noticeable during the daytime.
