Samsung Jet Bot Robot Vacuum Review

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Samsung release a robot vacuum cleaner, but we’re glad the company is taking its time.

The Jet Bot Robot Vacuum is a truly extraordinary device that performs a lot better than most modern robots, which isn’t unexpected based on what we’ve seen from past models. Let’s take a closer look at the Samsung Jet Bot to see whether it belongs in your home.

5-Watt, 20-CFM Suction

First of all, let’s talk about how well the Jet Bot performs. Independent inspections show that the Jet Bot has a maximum suction rating of 5 watts with 20 CFM of airflow, which, to be honest, isn’t all that great. Don’t expect the Jet Bot to deep-clean medium- or high-pile carpeting, at least in one pass.

This robot appears to have been tailor-made for bare floors, though it does clean up surface debris from carpets rather well. If your floors are covered in wall-to-wall carpeting, we’re sad to report that this might not be the most efficient robot for you.

LiDAR Navigation + Efficient Coverage

Despite its obvious shortfall when it comes to cleaning carpets, navigation is something that the Jet Bot has in the bag. Thanks to 360-degree LiDAR navigation, this robot expertly navigates floors and avoids large obstacles without the slightest hiccup.

Thanks to LiDAR navigation, the Jet Bot is able to map your floors with maximum precision. According to users, it only takes one or two full passes for the robot to completely recognize the layout of your home and memorize it for later use.

Soft-Brush Roller

One unique feature that you’ll find in the Jet Bot is the soft-brush roller. Unlike most robots that come with stiff-bristled brush rolls, this robot uses soft bristles that work beautifully on bare floors and remove surface debris from carpets extremely well.

We were surprised to see just how well this robot manages to pick up the tiniest specks of dust and debris from crevices between tiles and floorboards, which is uncommon in a robotic vacuum cleaner.

However, one major problem some users found is that the soft-brush roller doesn’t manage hair very well. It does admirably well at picking up short pet hair, but any strand longer than five inches can prove too much for the Jet Bot. Get a pair of scissors ready to snip off any wads of hair that get tangled in the Jet Bot’s roller.

Advanced SmartThings App (No-Go Zones, Real-Time Reports, History, etc.)

As you might expect, Samsung made the Jet Bot compatible with the new and improved SmartThings app. After syncing your robot to the app on your smartphone, you’ll gain all sorts of customizable features, including setting up no-go zones. This is important as robots tend to get trapped in at least one area of your home (beneath low-hanging furniture, around pet bowls, and so on).

The SmartThings app also lets you stay in the loop regarding what your robot is doing, even when you’re out. You can receive real-time reports and find out what your robot has been doing while you’re not at home.

Voice Recognition

Most robots can be controlled via a smart speaker, but the Jet Bot takes it to the next level. This robot has voice recognition support, meaning that only authorized users can tell your robot what to do. You can use Bixby, Assistant, or Alexa to send voice prompts to your Jet Bot for hands-free control.

Washable 0.4-Liter Dustbin + 5-Layer HEPA Filter

Inside the Jet Bot is a 0.4-liter dustbin that’s completely washable, so getting rid of any sticky debris that might have entered your robot is a breeze. The dustbin isn’t the largest that you’ll find out there, and there’s a reason for that (we’ll get to that in a bit).

In addition, the dustbin is protected by a 5-layer HEPA filter that virtually ensures that even the tiniest speck of dust never escapes your robot and goes airborne. The filter is good for about six months, though your mileage will vary depending on how frequently you run your Jet Bot.

90-Minute Runtime

Something that was quite a letdown in the Jet Bot is its limited battery life per charge. At most, the Jet Bot can run for 90 minutes per session, which is about half of what you’d get from some of its name-brand competitors.

However, a 90-minute runtime isn’t the worst thing in the world, especially when considering that this robot has both auto-recharge and auto-resume functions. This means when its battery is low on power, it’ll automatically dock in its charging station to refuel, and when it has enough power, it’ll resume its vacuuming session where it left off.

Compatible with Samsung Clean Station

This point is in relation to the limited dustbin size we discussed earlier. The Jet Bot is compatible with Samsung’s Clean Station. This device is a charging dock that doubles as a vacuum cleaner for your robotic vacuum cleaner. A self-cleaning station is pretty much standard in most modern-day robots.

Whenever the dustbin is at full capacity, the Jet Bot will return to the charging dock and have its dustbin emptied out by the Clean Station. The filtered bag is good for 30 days, according to Samsung. Unfortunately, you’ll have to pick up the Cleaning Station separately from your Jet Bot.

No Mopping Module

If you’re looking for an ultra-versatile robotic vacuum cleaner, this might not be it. Despite being a recent release, the Jet Bot isn’t compatible with a mopping module. So, forget about wiping your floors clean by dragging a semi-saturated microfiber cloth behind your new robot. You’ll have to find another mopping robot elsewhere.

Verdict: A Robot Vacuum You’d Be Proud to Own

Although the Samsung Jet Bot is far from perfect, at least in terms of versatility and deep-cleaning performance, it’s still a stellar robot that anyone would be proud to own.

The highly intelligent features, including customizable no-go zones and voice recognition, make it an excellent robot for anyone who doesn’t want to manually tend to their robot. We highly recommend picking up the Clean Station if you can spring it for added convenience.
