McCulloch MC1385 vs MC1375 vs MC1275 Steam Cleaners

Are you looking for a chemical-free way to clean or one appliance to do the job of many? If so, a canister-style steam cleaner is your best bet. When it comes to steam cleaning systems, one company on the forefront of this industry is McCulloch. Among this manufacturer’s line of high-quality canister steam cleaners are the MC1385, MC1375, and MC1275.

Introduction

These three steam cleaning systems are lightweight and easy to maneuver thanks to the inclusion of large wheels and ergonomic handles. Each model is equipped with a gauge that indicates when enough pressure has built and an insulated hose that prevents accidental burns. Plus, there is storage available for accessories.

The two bigger steam cleaning systems offer variable steam flow, and every canister has a large tank. Even though the reservoir capacities differ, they all produce 45 minutes or more of continuous steam. Since they come with a lengthy power cord and an extension wand, there is almost no place you can’t reach.

Easy-Fill Reservoirs

You’ll never struggle to fill the reservoir without spilling water thanks to the way these steam cleaning canisters are designed. Each boiler has a wide cap, which is easily accessible. The MC1385 and the MC1375’s twist cap is located directly on top of the unit while the MC1275’s cap can be found inside of the steam cleaner’s storage compartment.

To make the refill process easier, McCulloch includes a measuring cup with each canister, and the 1275 even comes with a funnel.

How much water does each steam cleaner hold? It varies by model. Both the McCulloch MC1385 and the MC1275 have 48-ounce boilers, and the larger MC1385 can hold 64 ounces of water. With a 1,500-watt boiler running the show, the water’s heating time is rather quick.

The MC1385 heats the water in about 12 minutes while the MC1275 ‘s boiler produces a steam-producing temperature in as little as minutes, and the MC1375 falls somewhere in between.

As far as knowing when the water is hot enough to produce steam, McCulloch puts usability first. Each canister-style steam cleaner has a color-coded pressure gauge. When the gauge’s needle is in the green zone, the steam cleaner is ready to use.

The McCulloch MC1275 even has a steam-ready indicator light. If the boiler or any other component isn’t functioning properly, you are covered by a 2-year warranty.

Strong Steam

Canister steam systems like the MC1385 and MC 1375 offer variable steam, which allows you to control the rate of the steam’s flow. The MC1385 puts out steam at a whopping force of 58 pounds per square inch.

When you select the low-flow steam setting on the 1385, the steam is released at a rate of 15 grams per minute, lasting 120 minutes. If you choose a high steam flow, the rate doubles and the steam lasts for 90 minutes.

Like the MC1385, the 1375 also boasts a pressure rate of 58 psi, and it shares the same flow rate for both the low and high setting. While you can get continuous steam for a long time, the time period is less for the MC1375 due to its smaller overall size. In the low-flow mode, you get 90 minutes of steam. In the high-flow mode, you get half the number of minutes.

As the smallest canister steam system in the bunch, the MC1275’s stats aren’t quite as high, but they are still impressive. For instance, instead of 58 psi, its pressure rate is 43 psi. Despite a difference of 15 pounds per square inch, the steam flows out of the nozzle at one rate, which ranges from 33 to 37 grams per minute.

You get just as much working time as the MC1375 provides on high-flow mode – 45 minutes.

Convenient Controls

Steam when you want it, and none when you don’t. In an instant, you can stop the flow of steam, so you don’t waste valuable working time or accidentally damage delicate surfaces. To get started, you must first flip the on-off switch on each canister. If you’re working in a garage or a dark area, you’ll appreciate the switch’s backlighting.

After you flip the switch and you see the pressure gauge’s needle in the green zone, you simply have to hold down the button to make the steam come out of the nozzle. The MC1385 and MC1375 are equipped with a trigger while the McCulloch MC1275 has a push button on top of the handle – both configurations are a breeze to use.

If you have a big cleanup job to do, holding the trigger or button down can get tiresome quickly. That’s why all three McCulloch canister steam cleaners have a trigger lock to maximize your comfort. Like the trigger on the larger two models and the push button on the smaller one, the lock button is located within a fingertip’s reach.

The MC1385 and MC1375 offer an additional feature. If you want to change the flow of steam, you can do so with each canister system’s steam-adjustment dial knob. As with many steam cleaners, the 1375’s variable-steam knob can be found on the canister itself. However, the 1385’s knob is on the handle where you can spin it with your thumb.

Incredible Reach

With these steam cleaners, you don’t need to plug in an extension cord or drag out a step ladder to get to hard-to-reach areas. The power cord on the MC1375 and MC1385 comes in at 18 feet, which means you can use either canister steamer over 5 yards away from the nearest electrical outlet.

Although the MC1275’s cord measures 3 feet less, 15 feet is anything but short. Plus, there is a cord wrap on each model to prevent it from becoming tangled while in storage.

Sometimes you need a longer reach to remove grime. That’s where these steam cleaners’ hose and extension wand come in handy. Yep! All three canister steam systems come with both. The hose on each model stretches to 10 feet, and it’s insulated to prevent the steam from returning to its liquid form.

There is also a multi-piece extension wand that locks into place for stability. Even though the cleaners pack a lot of heat, their handles always stay cool to the touch to protect your hand from burns.

Lightweight Mobility

Their size and shape may vary, but one feature the steam cleaners share is the ease in which they can be moved. The McCulloch MC1275 is the lightest of all three models, weighing just 9.95 pounds.

It sits on smooth wheels that won’t scratch your floors and a pair of casters that help you navigate turns. When you’re rolling it from one area to the next, you can rest the nozzle on the top-affixed cradle.

At 10.8 pounds, the MC1375 is the mid-weight model. This canister steam cleaner has a large pair of wheels with soft tread along as well as two swiveling casters. When you need to carry it, you can do so by holding the cushy handle that’s built into the appliance.

Like the McCulloch MC1275, this steam cleaner also has a nozzle cradle.

The MC1385 may be the largest canister steam system on the list, but it’s lighter than it looks. At a weight of 13 pounds, anyone can transport the canister from point A to point B. It boasts a pair of oversized wheels that are designed to handle rough terrain.

Thanks to a pull-out luggage handle with a rubberized cover, rolling the canister is an effortless endeavor.

A Myriad of Accessories

Whether you go with the MC1275, the MC1385 or the MC1375, you get more than enough accessories to complete any task with which you’re faced. All steam systems come with a 13-inch-wide mop head, a triangular brush for cleaning corners and nylon and brass brushes for detailing jobs.

Although every model offers a microfiber pad for the floor head, the MC1385 and MC1375 also come with a scrubbing floor pad to help lift stubborn dirt. These two steam cleaners can be used with angled and jet nozzles as well as a scraping tool. If you need to clean windows, the MC1275 and MC1385’s squeegee come in handy.

Is there any place to store all these accessories? Absolutely. The 18 attachments that come with the MC1275 can be housed in the canister’s on-board storage compartment, which is secured by a hinged door. As for the MC1375’s 20 accessories and the MC1385’s 23 accessories, McCulloch includes a tote bag.
