The McCulloch MC1375 Canister system is our choice for the best buy in the steam cleaner category. Read on to find out why.
Product Category
We were in the market for a steam cleaner. Our hardwood floors were at the point where they needed either replacement or miraculous rebirth. Luckily, we were able to find a device to give them the makeover they so desperately needed so we didn’t have to shell out for a complete renovation. That device was the McCulloch MC1375.
If you’re new to the concept of steam cleaners, these machines take everyday tap water, heat it up to steaming, and push it through a special cloth pad or hard scrubbing attachment to bust the toughest stains, from sticky syrup to mud to oil.
You can clean tile or wood flooring, outdoor wicker or cast iron furniture, and equipment like tools or even your lawnmower (Check out McCulloch’s Robotic Lawn Mower) or motorcycle. If you have a house with a garage, you probably have things that you can steam clean right now.
Standout Features
All steam cleaners have the ability to produce steam with which you can clean things. What they don’t all have is McCulloch’s fast heat-up time and impressive staying power. It takes the MC1375 only 10 minutes to heat up to ready, and it has 90 minutes of continuous steam capacity.
That’s more than enough time to get through all the cleaning you care to do before it’s time for a break. The box also contains twenty accessories to let you clean whatever and wherever you need to. No exceptions.
The eighteen foot (FOOT!) power cord will stretch all the way from your utility closet to the third bay of your garage where your chopper is sitting, waiting to have its layers of grease steamed away. The whole cord and all the accessories store conveniently on the frame of the cleaner so you won’t be fishing around trying to find what you need when the time comes for steaming.

Accessories
Most of the time, we’re using the large mop heads for our floors or other flat surfaces. Still, there’s occasionally cause to dip into the treasure trove of other accessories that the MC1375 steam cleaner comes with.
For instance, there is a three-inch scraper, several brushes of various sizes, multiple scrubber pads, a brass utility brush for cast iron, and some organizational accouterments like a net for all the accessories and a storage bag. McCulloch thought of everything here. You don’t need to worry that anything is missing.
Specs
The entire unit is under eleven pounds, which is pretty light considering that you’ll be wheeling it around behind you rather than carrying it. The hose is a full ten feet long, which, when combined with the eighteen-foot-long cord, gives you more than enough space to maneuver.
The steam output is variable, so the cleaning power is totally in your hands. The included manual has everything you need to get started and maintain the device. The plug has three prongs, which is essential, as water-based electrical appliances require a grounding wire.

Near Misses
No product is perfect, and the McCulloch MC1375 canister steam system has some minor room for improvement. One thing missing is a low water warning light or indicator. This one isn’t that important though since you can easily see the water level and it has enough capacity for an hour and a half of operation.
Also, the built-in PSI gauge is a major hint at how much water is left. Plus, the performance remains high even when the water is almost out, so it’s almost a non-issue. If you need a larger steam cleaner, have a look at its bigger brother, the McCulloch MC1385.

Best Parts
The greatest thing about this particular steam cleaner is that it requires no special chemicals of any kind. In fact, if you put some kind of chemical cleaning agents in the tank, it would probably function worse than it does. You can rest assured that clean tap water is all you need to get an amazing clean.
Another awesome bonus is that this can kill mites and bedbugs. Steam your mattress if you ever think you might be dealing with anything like that.
Advice
We’d like to offer a few bits of advice based on what we learned. If it’s your first time using a steam cleaner, you might want to wear some cloth gloves and long sleeves. You don’t want to accidentally burn yourself if you’re unfamiliar with this kind of device. After that, you don’t need to take precautions.
They’re really safe once you know what you’re doing. Also, if you want to steam your carpets, we highly recommend vacuuming first. The less big stuff in the way, the better this can do its job.
