Solidly built with Wi-Fi connectivity. The iRobot Roomba 891 performs well on all types of floors, and it does an outstanding job of lifting pet hair. iRobot equipped the Roomba 891 with an allergen-trapping filter, dual anti-tangle brushrolls and a long-lasting lithium-ion battery. It also has an angled side brush that cleans along wall edges and deep into corners.
With the smartphone app or the virtual assistant of your choice, you can spot clean the robot. The scheduling function on the iRobot HOME app further automates the Roomba 891, ensuring your floors are vacuumed even when you aren’t home. Quick-thinking sensors keep the robot out of dangerous situations, and frankly, the black and champagne gold finish is eye-catching.
In short, the Roomba 891 robot vacuum loosens, pulls, and suctions dirt with up to 5x more air power as compared to the previous models. Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot vacuum to clean more thoroughly on concentrated areas of dirt. The 891 model is ideal for homes with pets, as the unit features tangle-free brushes and a high-efficiency filter. Just press CLEAN or schedule the Roomba on the go with the iRobot HOME App.

Stylish Appearance
While appearance isn’t anyone’s main concern, the Roomba 891 is a great-looking robotic vacuum. For this model, iRobot chose a two-toned finish. Adding champagne gold alongside black creates a sophisticated, almost elegant, robot that anybody would love to see zooming around their house.
Edge-Sweeping Side Brush
On the Roomba 891, there’s one three-propeller brush, which is affixed to the side of the robo vac. This brush is situated at a 27-degree angle to enhance its ability to reach the full height of your baseboards. Additionally, the angled position gives the brush an edge when it comes to the volume of dust it collects.

Dual Brushrolls
Most robots only have one brushroll, but not this Roomba. The 891 model is equipped with a pair of brushrolls that rotate counter to one another, boosting their hair and debris pickup prowess. Both rolling bushes are made of rubber, which staves off wrapped hair.
The rubber material also lends flexibility to the brushrolls for closer contact to the floor.
Strong, Dirt-Detecting Suction
In comparison to the Roombas from iRobot’s 600 Series, the 891 produces five times greater suction, making it better able to lift heavy and stubborn debris. The inclusion of dirt-detecting sensors allows the Roomba 891 to increase its suction whenever it finds areas of the floor that are dirtier than others. Plus, the robot’s floor plate rises and falls to match the height of the floor, putting the suction inlet as low to the ground as possible.
Several Cleaning Modes
There are several ways you can use the Roomba 891 to vacuum your floors. In auto mode, the robot will clean all the floors in your house. In spot mode, the 891 will move in a small spiral to eliminate piles of debris. Also, there’s a scheduling mode. To use this reoccurring mode, choose a time and pick the days you want the robot to clean.

Triple-Button Control Panel
In the center of the robot’s top, there are three localized controls. The flat chrome button in the middle lets you begin an auto-clean mode. Above this button, the target emblem starts a spot-mode session. Below the auto-clean button, a house is depicted. When pressed, the 891 drives and docks to its charging base.
Smartphone App
Put the robot to work wherever you may be. The Roomba 891 is enabled with Wi-Fi, so you can connect and control it via your smartphone. The iRobot HOME app can be installed on iPhones and Androids. With the app, you can set a schedule, choose a cleaning mode, receive push notifications and get updates about the robot’s current cleaning status.

You don’t even need to use your hands to start a cleaning session. iRobot gives you the option of pairing the Roomba 891 to an Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant device. With either smart assistant, you can initialize auto clean, pause the robot and send it to the dock.

Runs for an Hour
To power the Roomba 891, iRobot used a lithium-ion battery. The battery has a capacity of 1,800 mAh, giving the robot a runtime of about 1 hour per cycle. When the battery needs to be replenished or the current cleaning session is complete, the 891 automatically goes to the dock for a recharge.

Clog-Reducing Dirt Bin
Press the button at the bottom of the Roomba 891’s cover to instantly release the 10-ounce dirt bin from its side compartment. Since the mouth is wide, the airflow doesn’t become restricted as debris enter into the bin, lowering the chance of obstructions from forming in the air path. Anytime you want to know the bin’s fill level, you can check the iRobot HOME app.
10-Micron Filter
On the dirt bin, there is a small door, which houses the 891’s filter. The compact cartridge’s pleats are efficient, capturing 99 percent of particles as small as 10 microns. You can dust off the filter as needed, but it generally lasts about 2 months. However, filter replacements for the Roomba 891 are only a couple of bucks.
iAdapt and RCON
The Roomba 891 relies on iRobot’s iAdapt technology to help it navigate. With iAdapt at the helm, the robo vac split-second decisions that help it determine the safest route with the fewest obstacles. It even has a room confinement (RCON) sensor that’s compatible with one of iRobot’s dual-mode virtual walls.

Stair Avoidance
iRobot put six ledge-detection sensors on the front and rear of the Roomba 891 to prevent it from falling down the stairs. When the robotic vacuum gets near a drop-off, it turns on a caster wheel and moves in a different direction. To help you carry the 8-pound robot to the second story of your home, there’s an integrated handle on the top cover.

The Roomba E5 outshines the Roomba 891 on basically all fronts. We do like the fact that the 891 is lower in height, but it is not a reason for not picking the Roomba E5 over the 891.
