GOOVI by ONSON Robot Vacuum Review [F007 | 1800Pa]

Robotic vacuum cleaners have become increasingly more popular mainly due to significant drops in price. However, even though robots like the GOOVI by ONSON are indeed inexpensive, there isn’t a huge sacrifice in quality for price. In this review, we’re going to check out the budget-friendly, entry-level GOOVI and see how it holds up in the saturated market of feature-packed robot vacs.

1,800-Pa Suction Performance

First things first, how well does the GOOVI suck? It has a maximum suction rating of 1,800 Pa which is significantly lower than other robot releases this year, but within its price category, you really can’t ask for much more. With this much power, the GOOVI by ONSON Robot Vacuum is able to remove surface debris from most surfaces, including low-pile carpets.

Something that you might not expect from an entry-level robot is carpet boost technology, or as GOOVI puts it: carpet pressurization. As soon as the GOOVI sets foot (or wheel) on carpeting, it will automatically crank its suction power to the max to produce a semi-deep clean. We just wish it wouldn’t get trapped on carpets as often.

120-minute Runtime

Sporting a sizable 2,600-mAh battery, the GOOVI is able to clean nonstop for up to 120 minutes or approximately 2,000 square feet of surface area per charge. By robotic vacuum standards, this is about the average runtime and cleaning capacity which is quite surprising considering that it’s an entry-level robot.

But that’s not even the best part. The GOOVI by ONSON has auto recharge AND resume! As soon as its battery is running low on power, it will make a beeline for its floor charging dock to refuel. After roughly five hours of charging, it will automatically disembark and continue its cleaning cycle.

Random Navigation

Notice how we didn’t say that the GOOVI will “pick up where it left off.” This is due to the fact that this robot does not have any advanced navigation or mapping software, so it has no idea where it stopped. Instead, it will begin its cleaning cycle anew, starting from the location of the charging dock.

The GOOVI relies on a number of sensors that identify obstacles, cliffs, and other hazards in its immediate surroundings. It moves in a random pattern across your floors and—if things go right—pick up whatever debris it comes across. Not entirely reliable, for sure, but this isn’t much different from other random-moving robots.

Tiny 2.81-inch Profile

Standing at less than three inches tall, the robot vacuum is able to navigate beneath low-hanging furniture like couches and side tables without bumping its noggin. Its wheels allow it to transition from carpets and floors with height differences of about half an inch which should be sufficient for most households.

However, if you have medium-pile wall-to-wall carpets, the GOOVI may have trouble getting around, especially if your carpets have patches of dark colors which will throw its navigation sensors out of whack (not uncommon in robotic vacs).

4 Cleaning Modes

The unit offers four standard cleaning modes—auto, spot, edge, and Max. You’ll most likely keep the GOOVI running on auto mode since this will make use of carpet pressurization technology and benefit most from each battery charge.

Edge cleaning is a must-have since its side brushes are quite long and will more than likely toss debris to the sides (edges and corners of room). Switching between the four cleaning modes can be done by toying around with the infrared remote control.

Infrared Remote Control

You can do a lot more than switch between the different cleaning modes by using the remote control (batteries included). The GOOVI’s RC can be used to command the robot to return to its docking station when you’ve deemed your floors sufficiently clean.

There’s also a helpful Find Me button that will help in locating the robot when it inevitably gets trapped or lost in the wilderness of your home.

But the most useful feature you can configure with the remote control is auto scheduled cleaning. By setting the scheduler, you won’t need to worry about manually commanding the GOOVI to commence its cleaning cycle.

Verdict

Entry-level robotic vacuum cleaners come with a limited variety of features at varying performances. We’re happy to report that based on what we’ve seen, the GOOVI is one of the more feature-packed budget-friendly models currently available.

Its performance exceeded our expectations for a 1,800-Pa robot, although it does tend to get stuck on carpets more frequently than we liked. Overall, the GOOVI would make for a fantastic tool for first-time robotic vacuum cleaner buyers.
