Ecovacs DEEBOT 711S Robot Vacuum Review
With infrared sensors alone, a robotic vacuum tends to be clumsy. Ecovacs takes the Deebot 711S to a higher level of navigation with the addition of an optical sensor and intelligent mapping. The Ecovacs Deebot 711S offers voice command and a smartphone app control options along with a streamlined remote and an onboard quick-start function.
A dual-material brushroll and a suction-increase function give the 711S enough power to handle medium-pile carpet. Allergens stay in the dirt bin where they belong thanks to the three-stage filtration unit. Plus, the battery can run for long enough to vacuum over 1,000 square feet per cycle.
One of the best features on the Deebot 711S is Ecovacs’ Smart Navi 2.0 visual mapping system. This proprietary technology is a step up from infrared navigation. With a flush-mounted optical sensor, the Deebot 711S scans each room to locate landmarks. Then, the 711S uses these landmarks to build a map of your home.
Smart Navi 2.0 also allows the Deebot 711S to memorize the map it creates, so the robot can recall the map every time it vacuums instead of creating a new one. Another great aspect of Smart Navi 2.0 is its ability to keep the robo vac on a methodical cleaning course that eliminates repetitive vacuuming.
Ecovacs still relies on tried-and-true infrared technology as part of the 711S holistic navigation system. Therefore, the Deebot 711S’ bumper is equipped with infrared anti-collision sensors in addition to the robot’s Smart Navi 2.0 system. The 711S also has anti-drop infrared sensors. These sensors prevent the robot vacuum from hitting objects and falling down the stairs.
Styled in the traditional round shape, the black robotic vacuum measures 3.2 inches tall, which means the robot reaches places that taller robots can’t access. A cover on top of the robot keeps the housing from sustaining scratches, and a pair of high-grip wheels provide traction on thresholds up to 0.63 inches tall.
Enjoy the convenience of controlling your robot from anywhere by installing the Ecovacs HOME app on your smartphone. From the app, you can view the robot’s location in real-time on a map. Additionally, you can set a schedule by day and time, change cleaning modes, direct the robot’s every movement and see a cleaning report.
If your hands are full, you also have the option of giving the Deebot 711S voice commands. Pair the robot with an Alexa or a Google virtual assistant device to tell the robot vacuum to start and stop cleaning or return to its dock.
Remote Control Backup
When your smartphone isn’t handy or your home’s Wi-Fi network is down, you can still send the Deebot 711S on a vacuuming run. Ecovacs includes a streamlined remote control with the robot. While the remote does not provide access to the robo vac’s full array of functions, it does allow you to control the robot’s most basic modes.
On top of the robotic vacuum, there is one button and one indicator, both of which are lined vertically above the optical sensor. From the robot, you can begin and end a vacuuming session by pressing the single flat button. The indicator informs you of the robot’s Wi-Fi connection status, making setup and troubleshooting easy.
Enhanced Brush System
The Ecovacs Deebot 711S’ brushroll is anything but ordinary. Unlike standard straight brushrolls with bristles that constantly accumulate tangled hair, the 711S’ brushroll is designed to deflect that problem. The brushroll features rubber blades in addition to bristles, and their V-shaped pattern gives the brushroll better lifting power than competing models.
Rounding out the 711S’ brush system is a set of two side brushes. These spinning sweepers are made of nylon, which offers multiple benefits. First, they won’t shed with repeated use. They are also gentle enough to leave your baseboards and walls scratch-free. Plus, nylon is resistant to bacteria.
Double the Suction Power
If you have pets or kids, you’ll appreciate the Deebot 711S’ two-speed motor. Via the Ecovacs HOME app or the remote, you can instantly increase the suction power when the robot needs a cleaning boost. Max mode takes the 711S’ already-strong suction and doubles it, so the robot vacuum can remove concentrated and stubborn messes.
The app also gives you three cleaning mode selections. Edge mode takes the 711S around the perimeter of each room, giving wall lines a thorough cleaning. Spot mode turns the robot in spirals for small-area vacuuming, and auto mode tells the robot to clean all your floors. Max suction works in every cleaning mode.
Never come home to a stalled robot with a dead battery. Ecovacs programmed the Deebot 711S to automatically drive and position itself to the dock, so it can recharge without your assistance. The use of a lithium-ion battery means the robo vac won’t lose suction as its battery charge depletes.
The high-capacity lithium-ion battery can last for 110 to 130 minutes on a full charge, which equates to 1,100 square feet per cycle. The run-time will be reduced if you engage Max mode. If you use Max mode throughout the entire cycle, you’re looking at a working time of 70 minutes.
Pet owners and allergy sufferers will notice a positive difference in their homes’ indoor air quality. The Ecovacs Deebot 711S’ bin contains a three-stage filtration unit. This unit includes a pleated high-efficiency media that captures fine particles, a pre-filter for large-particle trapping and an odor-neutralizing carbon layer.
The bin itself can hold more debris than most robotic vacuum bins. This see-through dirt bin boasts a capacity of 17.6 ounces, effectively decreasing the number of trash-can trips and the downtime that accompanies those trips. The bin is easy to slide out from the side of the robot, and it clicks securely into place.
Smarter and Stronger
Taking cues from well-established competitors, Ecovacs improved upon its existing technology to create a robot that’s smarter and stronger than its predecessors. The Deebot 711S’ optical sensor and map memorization make for precise navigation, while its smartphone app and virtual assistant compatibility give modern consumers the conveniences they demand from a robotic vacuum.
A V-shaped bristled brushroll with rubber blades and nylon side sweepers fine-tune the 711S’ cleaning prowess, and Max suction allows the robot to lift tough messes. The deep-tread wheels plow through carpet with ease, and the battery’s runtime ensures the robot vacuum can clean the average-sized home in a day. The Ecovacs Deebot 711S is a well-designed mid-range robotic vacuum.
