Ecovacs Deebot 661 Convertible Vacuuming Review

A mopping function on a robotic vacuum seems like a wonderful time-saving idea. However, the process of switching between vacuum mode and mop mode is cumbersome. In an effort to streamline this process, Ecovacs designed the convertible Deebot 661, which features an easy to interchange dirt bin and water tank.

High-speed suction and a double-V brushroll mean the Deebot 661 will exceed your expectations on carpet, and the drip-style tank prevents aggravating leaks and water spots. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery runs the robot vac/mop for over an hour. Plus, you get the convenience that only smartphone app and voice control can provide.

Multi-Purpose Brushroll

Ecovacs designed the Deebot 661 to vacuum hard floors and carpets with equal efficiency. With alternating bristles and rubber blades formed in the shape of a V, the brushroll on the 661 can lift all kinds of debris on bare and carpeted floors. The rubber blades also reduce the frequency of tangles, which pet owners will appreciate.

On this robotic vacuum/mop there are two small brushes. Positioned on opposite edges, these propeller brushes wipe away dust on baseboards and along wall edges. Also, they gather debris in the middle of the room and pull them toward the suction inlet, extending the 661’s cleaning path to 13.1 inches.

Mopping System

The Deebot 661 not only vacuums but also mops. Even better, you can easily switch from vacuum to mop mode and back again. Instead of a thin tank that attaches to the bottom of the robot, the 17-ounce reservoir simply slides into the 661, taking the dirt bin’s place.

A rubber stopper in the reservoir prevents the robot from leaking as it mops. Ecovacs includes a washable microfiber mop pad, which secures to the underside of the reservoir. To wet the pad and clean your hard floors, the tank slowly drips water onto the microfiber cloth.

Dual-Suction Power

One of our favorite features on the Ecovacs Deebot 661 is its dual-suction speed. The default standard mode works well for bare floors and everyday maintenance. When there is a big mess on your floor or you have higher pile carpet, just press a button and the suction strength increases by around 50 percent.

Even if you run the Deebot 661 on Max suction mode for an entire cleaning cycle, you’ll still get a long runtime from it. The lithium-ion battery maintains a charge for about 110 minutes on standard mode and 70 minutes on Max mode. Plus, the robot vac/mop self-drives to the dock, handling the business of recharging for you.

App and Virtual Assistant Compatibility

For the in-a-hurry, tech-savvy person, Ecovacs gives you the ability to control and monitor the Deebot 661 from anywhere with the Ecovacs HOME app. Its uncluttered interface makes for simple, swift navigation. Via the app, you can choose a cleaning mode, set a schedule by day/time/, locate a lost robot, and view a cleaning log.

You can further integrate the Deebot 661 into your smart home setup by pairing it with an Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant device. Ecovacs periodically expands its Deebots’ virtual assistant skill recognition. Currently, you can tell the 661 to start, stop, pause, resume, and dock as well as ask for its current status.

Remote and Onboard Controls

With the exception of the locate-robot feature and cleaning logs, you can access all the robot’s functions by using the infrared remote, including auto, edge and spot mode. Its display screen even lets you set a schedule. To start an auto-clean session quickly, press the onboard button, which is positioned next to the mop-mode and Wi-Fi indicators.

Route Planning

Robotic vacuums that make random movements waste a lot of time. To utilize every minute of working time, the Deebot 661 uses sophisticated algorithms to plan its route. Therefore, each vacuuming and mopping session consists of logical movements, and its pattern is methodical, covering every square inch of open floor.

Large driving wheels and a 360-degree caster also help the robot navigate smoothly. Since the robot vac/mop only measures 3.1 inches tall, it can tackle those under-furniture dust bunnies. Ecovacs also equipped the 661 with multiple infrared sensors that detect stairs and objects to prevent falls and collisions.

Protective Features

No matter how souped-up a robotic cleaner’s obstacle-avoidance system, there will be occasions when it does bump into objects. For protection, Ecovacs added a shock-absorbing bumper to the Deebot 661. The robot also has an anti-scratch top, which gives the 661 a glossy finish.

The protective features on the Deebot 661 go beyond the physical. Ecovacs programmed the 661 to audibly request assistance. For instance, if the robot is stuck on an uneven surface, it will ask you to move it to a flat surface, or it will advise you to clean the sensors if they’re dirty.

High-Efficiency Filtration

No constantly rushing the Deebot 661’s dirt bin to the trash can for you. The bin boasts the same capacity as the reservoir, holding up to 17.6 ounces of debris. For a robotic vacuum, 17 ounces is a lot. The bin’s hinge designed keeps dirt contained until you’re ready to empty it.

When you open the bin, you’ll see two types of filter media inside of it. The cartridge is the main filter – It traps microscopic allergens within its pleats. The media on top of the cartridge is a simple sponge, which catches the bigger particles that tend to shorten a pleated filter’s lifespan.

Does It All and Does It Better

The Ecovacs Deebot 661’s hottest selling point is the interchangeable reservoir/bin, both of which are large and easy to switch. Even though there is no way to adjust the water flow, we do appreciate that the tank is leak-proof, and the bristled/bladed brushroll and Max suction leave nothing desired in terms of vacuuming.

With its top runtime of 110 minutes, the lithium-ion battery is also noteworthy. You get the convenience of a smartphone app and virtual assistant pairing. Scheduling, locate and three cleaning modes are available. Plus, route planning means time-efficient vacuuming and mopping. The Deebot 661 is an excellent deal for those looking for a user-friendly robotic vac/mop.
