The AP-1720G isn’t Coway’s cutest air purifier model—not by a wide margin. However, what this device lacks in looks, it more than makes up for in performance.
Let’s take a closer look at the AP-1720G to see whether it’s the right fit for your home.
930-Square-Foot Coverage Capacity
According to Coway, the AP-1720G can purify the air in rooms of up to 930 square feet, making it a reliable model for spacious areas like living rooms, kitchens, hobby rooms, or entire apartments.
The great news is that in 930-square-foot rooms, it produces 2 ACH (air change per hour), so users could certainly push the AP-1720G’s limits by placing it in rooms of over 1,500 square feet without reducing purifying efficiency by much.

EZ Release Pre-Filter + Max2 Filter
So, how does the AP-1720G clean indoor air? It uses a multilayered filtration system that starts with a washable pre-filter. The pre-filter’s EZ Release design lets it slide out of the purifier for quick and easy maintenance—washing and drying—before reinstalling.
The second and third air-purifying stages come in a single filter: the Max2 Filter. It consists of a Green True HEPA Filter that captures nanosized particles (as tiny as 0.01 microns) with 99.999% efficiency. Since harmful pathogens typically latch onto larger airborne contaminants, the Green True HEPA Filter has a great chance of capturing them.
Finally, the second layer of the Max2 Filter is an activated carbon filter that absorbs odor molecules, producing fresh, breathable air.
PM2.5 Pollution Sensor
Like any smart air purifier, the AP-1720G comes with a built-in particle sensor. The sensor detects the density of airborne contaminants that reveals how polluted the indoor air is using color codes (red for very unhealthy and blue for good).
If the air reaches a certain pollution density level, the AP-1720G’s motor will kick into high gear to suction and capture as many contaminants in as little time as possible. Basically, users can just plug the air purifier in, switch it to auto mode, and leave it alone until the Max2 Filter needs replacing.
App and Voice Support
The AP-1720G wouldn’t be a smart air purifier if you couldn’t control it from afar. Thankfully, you have two options to go with—using the Coway IoCare app on your smartphone, which keeps users in the loop by receiving air quality and filter statuses, or syncing the air purifier to an Alexa device to send voice commands.
These aren’t make-or-break features since you can set up the AP-1720G to run indefinitely on auto-mode, but they’re still nice to have.
Additional Features
This Coway air purifier comes with “standard” additional features. The first of which is the timer that automatically turns the AP-1720G off after a predetermined time (1/2/4/8 hours).
The second is the filter lifetime indicator, which informs users when the Max2 Filter is nearing or has reached the end of its life cycle. On average, you can squeeze about 6 months of use per Max2 Filter.
Verdict: Smart, Versatile, User-Friendly—What More Could You Want?
Don’t let the Coway AP-1720G’s super-plain-Jane appearance fool you. It’s one of the brand’s most powerful, most intelligent air purifiers that, we think, anyone would be happy to own and use. Not only does it deliver near-100% purifying efficiency, but it does it without needing anything more from you than a simple press of a button.
