Aquasana OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis Under Sink Water Filter System Review

With the horror stories in the news about contaminated water supplies, it feels as if drinking tap water is a health gamble. Home-use water filter systems allow you to drink tap water while avoiding the dangerous chemicals, particles, and other substances that find their way into the water supply.

However, the variety of water filtration technologies makes it hard to choose the right system for your needs. To give consumers safe, clean water from a triple-chamber filtration system, Aquasana created the Aquasana OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis Water Filter.

This exceedingly efficient water filter utilizes not one but three filtration technologies to rid your tap water or well water of 79 contaminants. Plus, the easy-to-maintain under-sink water filter has a dedicated chrome faucet that delivers one-half gallon of clean, delicious water per minute.

Additionally, it holds four certifications from the National Sanitation Foundation.

The Aquasana OptimH2O is a revolutionary water filtration system that provides the cleanest and best tasting water you can get out of a faucet.

There are two secrets behind the Aquasana OptimH20’s success — the powerful “reverse osmosis” system separates impurities from the water, while the “Claryum” filtration system uses four unique filtration technologies to make sure contaminants end up in your drain and not in your glass.

The Aquasana OptimH20 is the first water filter to combine both of these technologies in the same unit.

Reverse Osmosis

In the reverse osmosis membrane, water flows through a partially porous barrier. This barrier gets rid of the nitrates and radium. The reverse osmosis system in this water filter also has an NSF 58 certification.

This means the OptimumH2O reduces 95 percent of the fluoride, 96 percent of the chromium and 97 percent of the arsenic in your tap water.

Claryum Filtration

The second chamber in this filtration system is the Claryum Carbon filter, which removes 68 of the contaminants in your drinking water. Plus, it eliminates 97 percent of the water’s chlorine and chloramines as well as 99 percent of the water’s lead.

In addition, it filters out virtually all the asbestos. Therefore, this system has three certifications, including an NSF 42 certification for its ability to get rid of particles that negatively affect the water’s taste, like chlorine.

Since it takes care of volatile organic chemicals and certain parasites, it has an NSF 53 certification, and its NSF 401 certification indicates that the water filter keeps pesticides, pharmaceuticals and detergents out of your water supply.

Remineralization

With all the dangerous and disgusting substances that this water filter can reduce, you may wonder if the water it treats contains any healthy minerals. The remineralization chamber takes care of the mineral content and alkaline level.

The primary minerals that this chamber adds are potassium, calcium, and magnesium, and it also gives you a perfect alkaline balance every time you turn on the faucet.

All this filtration power doesn’t slow the flow rate. This system can treat one-half gallon of water every minute for a daily maximum of 35 gallons.

You may have noticed that reverse osmosis removes iron and zinc, and thought, “Hey, aren’t they healthy?” Well, you’re right, and you can add calcium, potassium, and magnesium to the list too. Yep, reverse osmosis removes healthy minerals as well as the bad stuff. This can also make the water overly acidic.

That’s why the Aquasana OptimH20 employs a remineralization system – the unit puts these minerals back into the water in healthy amounts. The result? PH-balanced, healthy water that tastes great.

Professional-Grade Carbon Filter

Each drop that comes out of the lead-free chrome faucet will stay safe from the trapped particles in the filters because NSF certifies that every connector and part of this Aquasana water filtration system is sealed to prevent seepage. Regarding the carbon and Claryum filter, it’s a breeze to replace them.

All it takes is one twist of the housings, and you have instant access to the filters.

NSF Certification

The NSF is an international, independent public health and safety organization that produces standards for a range of food and water technologies. If you want to know if you can trust what a manufacturer is saying, the NSF is who you ask.

The Aquasana OptimH20 meets all three relevant NSF Certifications for water filters – standards 42, 53, and 58. And while some water filters meet these standards for selected components, the Aquasana OptimH20 meets them for the whole system.

Easy use

The Aquasana OptimH20 comes with clear and detailed instructions to get you set up in no time. Once you’re up and running, maintenance is a cinch – the filter housings twist off easily, so replacing the filters is no trouble. The unit also has an impressive 0.5 GPM flow rate, so you won’t be waiting all day for your clean, filtered water.

Conclusion

When you look at the sheer number of chemicals and particles that each process reduces, it’s quite impressive. Plus, the fact that Aquasana added a remineralization step just adds to the water’s health factor. It has all the right certifications from the National Sanitation Foundation.

Also, the value of the water filter’s low maintenance can’t be overlooked. Every part stays under your sink and out of sight except for the designer 9.94-inch tall chrome faucet. Aquasana certainly pulled out all the stops with the OptimumH2O Reverse Osmosis Water Filter.

The Aquasana OptimH20 gives you water that is astonishingly refreshing and super clean. By combining reverse osmosis with the Claryum filtration system, the unit removes almost all contaminants from your water. But the remineralization system makes sure the healthy minerals stay in the water, making it better tasting and better for you.

So whether you want maximally clean water for the good of your health, or you just want great ice cubes for your Scotch, the Aquasana OptimH20 is the filter for you.

The reverse osmosis system uses high water pressure against a semi-pervious membrane, which blocks solid contaminants but allows water molecules to pass through. This is the only filtration system that is proven to remove fluoride from water. But it doesn’t stop there. Reverse osmosis removes up to 99% of contaminants, including chloride, zinc, sodium, sulfate, iron, lead, arsenic, nitrate, and cyanide, mercury — to name but a few!

Aquasana’s patent-pending Claryum selective filtration system combines four technologies in one filter. These technologies reduce over 60 different impurities, including heavy metals (with 99% of lead and mercury removed), chlorine, asbestos, chloramines, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and herbicides. Not only are you keeping these contaminants out of your drinking water, but you are also reducing the waste on the environment too.
