Hoover FloorMate Deluxe FH40160PC Hard Floor Cleaner Review

One of the most well-known vacuum cleaner brands is Hoover, and for very, very good reason. Their line of floor-cleaning devices is simply some of the best out there. In today’s review, we’re going to take a close look at the Hoover FloorMate Deluxe FH40160PC, an upright floor cleaner specially made for hard floors. Let’s see if the FloorMate Deluxe lives up to the good Hoover name!

Quad Counter-Rotating Brushes

Inside of the floorhead are four brushes that spin in opposite directions of the ones next to each other. This produces a deeper clean on smooth floors while their softness ensures no abrasive works. While the brushes are doing their thing, the suction inlet takes in all hair, dust, debris, and gritty sand that comes in its way to further prevent scratches on your floors.

In terms of performance, it’s almost 100% perfect. The only thing it struggles with cleaning is dried, caked-on stains and spills. Make sure to pre-treat the stain with a cloth to soften it up before using the FH40160PC to finish the job.

2 Brush Sets for Hardwood and Tiles

The FH40160PC comes with two sets of brushes—one for hardwood floors and another for tiles. Users will need to swap the brushes out when dealing with specific types of floors.

The fine-bristle brush set ensures no gash marks on hardwood floors, whereas the stiffer bristles on the tile-cleaning brush set are designed to clean more vigorously. Be sure to attach the appropriate brush set in place before powering the FH40160PC.

5-quart Dual-Tank System

This floor cleaner uses a dual tank system with an accumulated capacity of five quarts. The two-tank system separates dirty water from clean water so murky water is never recycled back onto your floors.

The dirty water tank does not come with a removable hair and debris trap so you may have to get your hands dirty when emptying it out.

Wet and Dry Modes

One of the more unique features of the FH40160PC is two different cleaning modes. Wet cleaning takes water from the clean water tank and introduces it to your floors for a shiny, glossy finish.

Dry mode activates the floor cleaner’s suction to lift and remove water from your floors for quicker drying.

Note to our readers: even though there’s a dry mode that uses high-pressure suction to remove moisture, this floor cleaner does NOT double as a vacuum cleaner. We tried it and it failed.

Clean Boost Control

Everything you need to control the FH40160PC is just a finger’s length away. On the handle is the Clean Boost Control button which allows users to dispense as much or as little soapy water as they like in an attempt to remove stubborn stains from high foot-traffic areas of your home. The button is quite sensitive and it’s easy to go overboard when dispensing soap.

Easy to Clean

Not only does the FH40160PC make cleaning easy, but the entire system is designed to make it easy to clean. The water tanks on either side of the floor cleaner are detachable for quick refilling and emptying.

The four brushes don’t take much effort to snap out and swap with the other set. Also, because the nozzle is encased in a transparent housing, it’s easy to see whether there are any hairballs preventing the brushes from rotating.

Washable Filter

While we’re on the subject on taking care of the FH40160PC, you should know that this floor cleaner comes with a simple washable filter. The filter needs to be washed after each use to ensure optimal suction performance to produce drier floors in less time. Be sure to wash the filter immediately after using the FH40160PC so grit and hair aren’t trapped inside.

20-foot Power Cord

The one thing we need to critique about the FH40160PC is its short power cord. The 20-foot cable does allow you to clean a wide radius, but it could definitely be longer. Feel free to use an extension cord to increase the floor cleaner’s reach from every wall outlet (that’s what we did).

Verdict: Should I Get the Hoover FloorMate Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner?

Overall, the Hoover Deluxe FH40160PC is an excellent hard floor cleaner with very few downsides. It would be close to perfect if it came with a longer power cord and swivel steering, but as is, it’s very easy to use.

If you’re looking for an affordable floor cleaner with all of the most important bases covered, the Hoover Deluxe FH40160PC is for you.
