Filter Types
HSP001 Smart True Air Purifier
Hathaspace included all the filtration media you’d expect to find in a high-quality air purifier. The HSP001 comes with a true-HEPA filter that captures 99.7 percent of particles down to 0.3 microns and a cellular-activated carbon filter that reduces odors. Additionally, there’s an antimicrobial filter and a VOC-eliminating cold-catalyst pre-filter.
As far as filter life goes, you get plenty from all four of the Smart True’s filtration media. Under normal use, you’re looking at replacing the set twice per year. In between replacements, refresh the filters by simply laying them flat and totally exposed to sunlight for 30 minutes.
HSP002 Smart True Air Purifier 2.0
The HSP002 Smart True 2.0‘s filter set is quite robust. Rated as medical-grade, the main filter is an H13 HEPA filter, which means it not only traps 99.7 percent of 0.3-micron particles but also 99 percent of 0.1-micron particles. This air purifier also has an activated carbon filter, a cold-catalyst filter, a pre-filter screen and a mildew-resistant polypropylene pre-filter.
Each filter in the Smart True 2.0 is designed to last throughout 3,000 hours of use, which equates to about 4 months. The only exception is the pre-filter screen – This lifetime filter is washable. When it’s time to replace the other filters, the air purifier will display a reminder.
Winner: the HSP002
The HSP001’s 4-piece filter set is nothing to sneer at, especially with Hathaspace’s inclusion of a true-HEPA filter and an antimicrobial filter. They also last 2 months longer than the HSP002’s 5-piece set. However, the HSP002’s medical-grade HEPA filter has a higher capture rate, and one of the two pre-filters resists mildew buildup.

HSP001 Smart True Air Purifier
One of the quietest fans on an air purification tower. The HSP001 has a three-speed fan that never gets louder than 43 decibels, yet it pushes air out at a rate of 160 cubic meters per hour. In regard to room size, the Smart True can circulate all the air in a 350-square-foot room two times in 1 hour.
You can manually adjust the fan or let the Smart True do it for you. On auto-fan mode, the air purifier self-adjusts the fan according to the current indoor air quality. The air-quality sensor detects the volume of air contaminants in real-time, and it displays this information via a three-color indicator on the control panel.
HSP002 Smart True Air Purifier 2.0
For the HSP002, Hathaspace chose a DC motor to keep the fan noise lower than 60 decibels. When manually controlling the fan, you can select from four fan speeds to meet the room’s air-quality demands. On its highest speed, the Smart True 2.0 achieves a 450 CADR and recirculates the air in a 750-square-foot room twice every hour.
The Smart True 2.0 is equipped with a real-time air-quality sensor that lowers/raises the fan speed. Thanks to its laser precision, the sensor not only provides a real-time air quality readout along a four-color spectrum but also gives a numerical particle-matter index that’s scored like the EPA’s rating scale.
Winner: the HSP002
For those who are sound sensitive, the HSP001 is the quieter choice. While both models have an air-quality sensor that displays its readings in a color-coded format, the HSP002’s sensor is more sensitive. The HSP002 Smart True 2.0 also displays the indoor air quality numerically, which is a feature the HSP001 doesn’t have.
Controls and Extras
HSP001 Smart True Air Purifier
Hathaspace loaded the HSP001 with extras such as an ozone-safe ionizer and a bacteria-neutralizing UV-C light. Although the Smart True only draws 40 watts of electricity, you can set the shut-off timer on a delay of up to 12 hours. The air purifier’s sleep mode turns off the light and lowers the fan noise to a mere 18 decibels.
The display and control panel are located on the front of the air purifier, giving you easy visibility from a sitting/laying position. Touch buttons allow for responsive setting changes. You also get a remote, so you can control the Smart True from across the room from bed in the middle of the night.
HSP002 Smart True Air Purifier 2.0
With the Smart True 2.0, you get several convenient features. There’s a max-fan function that sets the fan to its highest speed for an hour, which helps quickly clear cigarette smoke and cooking odors. The 100-watt air purifier also has a 12-hour auto shut-off/turn-on timer and a 30-decibel sleep mode.
Hathaspace did not include a remote control with the HSP002. However, the air purifier has a sleek touch screen on top of the tower, and the color-coded indicator is on the front panel. With this placement, you are able to see the current air-quality at a glance.
Winner: the HSP001
These air purifiers have a timer and a sleep mode – two features that are almost expected on fully loaded purification towers. Still, the original Smart True’s sleep mode is quieter. It also comes with a remote and has an ionizer feature, both of which are lacking from the Smart True 2.0.
Air Purifiers That Mean Business
Compared to the HSP002, the major highlights of the HSP001 Smart True Air Purifier include an antimicrobial filter, an overall longer filter life and a lower wattage draw. The fan is quieter whether on high speed or sleep mode. The HSP001 is also the only one that comes with a remote control.
On the other hand, the Smart True 2.0 has a higher-grade HEPA filter, two pre-filters and an additional fan speed. The max-fan mode removes airborne particles fast. The timer not only turns off the air purifier but also turns on the fan. Plus, the air-quality sensor gives numerical readouts, not just color-coded ones.
If you need to clean the air in an average-size room such as a bedroom or a study, opt for the HSP001 Smart True. This air purifier is also the only choice if a remote is a must-have. For large spaces such as living rooms and quick contaminant clear-outs, the Hathaspace HSP002 Smart True 2.0 is a better buy.
